"Bard Bird Friendly Campus" refers to a program or initiative focused on creating an environment that is supportive of bird populations on the Bard campus. The program aims to promote biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability by implementing practices and policies that benefit birds and their habitats. Typically, a bird-friendly campus would involve various initiatives such as:
Providing
habitat: Creating and maintaining suitable habitats for birds through the preservation and planting of native vegetation, including trees, shrubs, and flowers that provide food and shelter. Reducing hazards: Minimizing potential threats to birds such as collisions with windows by using bird-friendly glass or window treatments. Education and awareness: Raising awareness among students, staff, and the campus community about the importance of birds and the need for their conservation through educational programs, events, and signage. Research and monitoring: Conducting bird surveys and research to better understand the local bird population, their behaviors, and the effectiveness of conservation efforts. Collaborations: Partnering with local conservation organizations, birding groups, and experts to exchange knowledge, share resources, and work together on bird conservation projects. Bard College is making the first 'Bird Friendly Campus' in the United States in cooperation with the Audubon Society. We will place, throughout campus, houses, drinking stations, feeders and food for birds. We will also organize workshops and various other
venues in which to educate the Bard community about birds in our area and about how to protect our fine feathered friends.
