Union County Soil & Water Conservation District Union County is nestled in the heart the of Southern Illinois. We are in a position that allows us to offer cost share funds towards conservation practices.

The Union County SWCD works diligently to protect the county's greatest assets – the rich, fertile soils and water resources of the state through strategic conservation efforts. It is enriched with hundreds of creeks and streams, hearty, rich soils and an exceptional amount of diverse wildlife. The Union County Soil & Water Conservation District works hand in hand with our county residents to assi

st in conserving these precious resources. We have installed hundreds of projects over the course of our existence and with all hopes, intend to continue doing so. We work side by side with other agencies such as the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency to assist in the implementation of their conservation programs. We network with the Union County Farm Bureau, City of Anna and Union County schools to provide educational outreach and events. We host a monthly board meeting the 2nd Thursday of every month which are traditionally open to the public. Please contact us with any questions!

Spring 2024 Fish Sale Order Forms are now available at the office.

We will be having our Annual Board of Directors Election tomorrow, February 8th from 7:00AM-5:30PM. We will have the NWTF Forester, Chase Seals, joining us at 9AM for coffee, donuts, and a presentation on Habitat Management and Predator Control. Come by the office and vote, get a fish sale order form, and listen to Chase speak!

The Union and Pulaski-Alexander County Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD's) are seeking applicants to fill two part time positions for Technical Assistants (TA). The purpose of the TA is to provide technical and administrative assistance to the SWCD's in Union, Pulaski and Alexander Counties. One position will be located at the Union County SWCD office and one position will be located at the Pulaski-Alexander SWCD office. Our SWCD's work with local farmers and landowners to help them better utilize voluntary conservation planning processes, farm outreach, and conservation education programs. We assist with the development and implementation of soil and water conservation practices. We work closely with our in-office partner the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

This position is a grant funded, part-time, temporary position and will continue for approximately 14 months from the date of hire with potential contract renewal. The hourly wage for this position is $17 per hour. Some benefits are included. The TA work week will be flexible not to exceed 30 hours per week. The hours of work will fall between 8:00am and 4:30pm.

Qualifications for the positions are as follows: high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license with proof of auto insurance. A pre-employment drug screen and a satisfactory Federal background check are required. Experience in agriculture or a conservation related field is preferred. The successful candidate must be able to work in an office setting with several other employees as well as must be physically able to walk over rough terrain to perform conservation work.

We have an open position as a Soil and Water Conservation District Technical Assistant!

Position Description:
The purpose of this position is to provide technical and administrative assistance to the Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Union, Pulaski and Alexander Counties. Our Soil and Water Districts work with local farmers and landowners to help them better utilize voluntary conservation planning processes, farm to farm outreach, and conservation education programs. We assist with the development and implementation of practices such as conservation structures, conservation tillage, residue management, and irrigation & nutrient management in order to improve production and conserve natural resources. We also work closely with our in-office partner the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). Much of the work in this position is directed and overseen by NRCS staff.

This is a full-time, grant funded, contract position and will continue for approximately 16 months from the date of hire with possible contract renewal. The hourly wage for the position equates to $35,000 per year. Benefits are not offered with this position. The Technical Assistant is an employee of the Union and Pulaski/Alexander County Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Employee time will be shared between the two offices in Tamms and Anna, IL.

The Technical Assistant is considered an independent contractor and is responsible for all payroll deductions. The work week for this position is 40 hours per week with a schedule of 8am-4:30 pm.

Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required (Associate degree is preferred). A valid Driver’s License is required. The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screen. One year minimum experience in an agriculture or conservation related field is preferred. The successful candidate must be physically able to walk over rough terrain to perform conservation work.
