The Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority operates with a small staff and 12 citizen Board Members with the mission to help improve the downtown Ann Arbor area. The mission of the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is to undertake public improvements that have the greatest impact in strengthening the downtown area and attracting new private investments.

Here is your weekly 4th Ave construction update. 🚧

Progress made this week:
➡️ Water service connections made to the Blake Transit Center, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, and the Federal Building
➡️ Line stops being installed to continue water main work, hydrant installation, and more.
➡️ More demolition activities as needed for the project

Looking ahead to next week:
➡️ Begin working on storm sewer installations in the 4th Ave and Liberty intersection.

DTE continues their gas main work in the block between Liberty and Washington. They are expected to move northward soon.

Here is your weekly 4th Ave construction update. 👷‍♂️

Progress made this week:
➡️ Water main installation and testing.
➡️ Making new water service connections and reconnecting existing services.
➡️ Removal of bus shelters, sidewalks, and street lights.

Looking ahead, next week's work will:
➡️ Continue making service connections and water main tie-ins.
➡️ Continue with miscellaneous removals.

DTE continues its gas main work in the block between Liberty and Washington. As a reminder, while adjacent to our worksite, DTE work is not a part of the 4th Ave construction project.

Design week is here! ⭐

The project team is developing concepts for North Main Street, building on what was heard during the discovery phase. The public is invited to join the team during these hours:

➡️ Open Studio: May 19th (1:00 PM – 3:30 PM)
➡️ Open Studio: May 20th (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
➡️ Public Open House: May 21st (5:30 PM – 7:30 PM)

👷 Construction continues on 4th Ave. Take a look at some of the work completed recently and a preview of what's to come.

Past week progress highlights (05/14/2026):
✔️ Water main installation progress💧
- Installed main line on 4th between William and Liberty
- Installed lateral lines
✔️Storm Drains relocated

Next week highlights:
- Removal of old bus shelters
- DTE installing electrical line for 350 S 5th
- More pedestrian channelizers (barriers to help guide traffic and people) are coming to Liberty/4th intersection

As a note, the DTE gas main project has moved north of Liberty St. faster than expected. There have been adjustments to the barricades due to this change. This project is independent of our 4th Ave construction.

The Downtown Development Area Resident Consultancy Council is an advisory group composed of residents living within the DDA boundary. Give input on the implementation of our recently passed Development Plan during quarterly virtual meetings.

The Gutman Gallery, a part of the Guild of Artists and Artisans, was opened as a retail gallery and exhibition space to support Guild members.

Since its establishment in 2020, the Gutman Gallery has provided a multitude of artist opportunities and community-oriented arts programming. From solo showcases in satellite exhibition spaces and gallery shop trunk shows, to workshops and life-drawing open to the public, the Gutman Gallery strives to serve it’s community of artists and art lovers.
