Brownstown Middle School in Brownstown, MI is participating in the Renewable Energy Program offered by Energy Works Michigan. Project Director, Jason Bing, and Project Associate, Natalie Young, visited the school's rooftop installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays. One 2 kW solar PV array was installed on a typical black roof, and a second 2 kW solar PV array was installed on a new green roof (covered with vegetation). The school is comparing the performance of the solar PV arrays on each roof surface by monitoring the temperature.
