Woven Wind

Woven Wind We are a student-run engineering project team at the University of Michigan who designs and builds small-scale wind turbines for educational purposes

Woven Wind is dedicated to designing and building small-scale wind turbines in collaboration with local Ann Arbor area elementary schools. We are using the wind turbines as educational tools to get the students involved with a hands-on, sustainable engineering project to integrate important concepts into their curriculum.

Hi from the Science, Innovation, and Design Expo at Ann Arbor Open! They were kind enough to ask us back this year and we were a hit! We made Puff Mobiles, breath powered cars, out of paper, straws, and life savers. Many students stopped by to make their own, but they probably were more attracted to the candy than the craft 😭 we enjoyed being back and had a blast! Go Pandas! 🐼 @ Ann Arbor Open School

We had our transmission activity day at Angell Elementary this morning! The students learned about the role of the transmission subteam, how energy gets converted from kinetic to electrical, and played around with gear ratios in their hands-on activity. Shout out to the Outreach subteam that puts together all our amazing activity days! @ Angell School

After members of the Outreach subteam (shown top/left) tested the concept, the 5th and 6th graders of Ann Arbor Open (shown bottom/right) managed to make stable towers that supported a "wind turbine" and survived strong wind gusts!
