Be careful!

I’ve seen people fall victim to this before. Follow these tips to stay safe.

Scams come in many forms, but most follow the same pattern. The Ankeny Police Department shares a simple way to recognize a scam... Remember T I P:

T – Threat
Scammers often begin by creating fear. They may claim you or a family member is in trouble, facing arrest, jail, fines, or confinement. The goal is to make you panic and act without thinking.

I – Immediacy
Scammers push urgency. They will tell you to act right away and discourage you from hanging up, calling a relative, or verifying the situation. In many cases, they will keep you on the phone while directing your next steps.

P – Payment
This is the final goal. Scammers demand money or access to finances, often through gift cards, money orders, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or by asking for banking or account information.

Remember:
Legitimate agencies and businesses do not demand immediate payment over the phone, do not request gift cards or cryptocurrency, and do not threaten arrest without due process.

If something feels wrong, pause, hang up, and verify the information by contacting a trusted family member, your bank, or law enforcement directly. Awareness and taking a moment to slow down can prevent fraud and protect both you and others in our community.

We passed the budget!

I would like to extend my gratitude to staff for all their hard work pulling this together, and for answering my many questions. I encourage all residents to read it, and reach out to me and/or the city with any questions.

Welcome to the team Brent!

We’re excited to welcome Brent Hinson as Ankeny’s next assistant city manager. He will start June 22.

Brent currently serves as deputy city administrator in Mason City and brings more than 23 years of experience in local government across Iowa.

In this role, he will support daily operations, work alongside departments on major projects and initiatives, and help move forward priorities set by the City Manager and City Council.

“Brent will be a strong addition to our team as Ankeny continues to grow and we take on new priorities. His experience, ability to work through complex challenges and track record of success made him a clear choice for this role,” said City Manager Mike Schrock.

Join us in welcoming Brent to Ankeny!

*Speaking in my personal capacity*

Corruption needs to be called out, no matter which "side" it's on.

Polk County Recorder Julie Haggerty and her deputy Lisa Chiodo have been plotting together for months to make Lisa the next Polk County Recorder, and attempted to ensure that no other candidate had the time to mount a challenge.

Don't believe me, look at the evidence yourself. Lisa BEGAN collecting signatures on January 5th, including Julie's signature. Lisa collected 100% of her signatures before Julie announced her retirement on March 18th, JUST TWO DAYS before the deadline to file. Lisa also registered her campaign committee on March 16th, BEFORE Julie's announcement.

Tonight Lisa had the gall to stand in front of a group of 100 people and lie to us. I asked if she was told of Julie's retirement in advance. She said no. We now know beyond any doubt that she was lying.

Lisa Chiodo cannot become our next County Recorder, or this cycle of corruption will just continue. Like, comment, and share to spread the word.

**Trigger Warning**

Please, use your own eyes. It will hurt, but watch the videos. Everyone needs to know the truth.

Alex Pretti should be alive, and there was no justification to shoot him.

Don't let them lie to you. If this becomes normal, no one is safe.

I try to keep this account focused on local politics. But this is too horrible to ignore.

Masked men are running around the country, refusing to identify themselves, grabbing people off the street, and just shot a mother coming home from bringing her kid to school.

Watch the video and you'll see. She tries to drive away, and they killed her for it.

Renee Good should be alive, and the man(Jonathan Ross) who murdered her should face justice.

NPR identified the ICE agent who fired the gun as Jonathan Ross by cross referencing court records. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem — without naming the officer — said he had been with the agency for a few years and had a previous confrontation with a protester.
