This story breaks my heart, but doesn’t surprise me. As a public school teacher I know the special needs of all my students. I sign off on having read their IEPs and 504s. It is the right thing to do and a requirement for all public school educators. Unfortunately Iowa tax dollars are supporting schools that do not provide for student with disabilities and allows these schools to remove students they don’t want to provide for. It may have been too hot for outdoor recess this afternoon, but I was still out on the doors! I had a lot of good conversations today. We talked about daycare and we talked about people on fixed incomes. We talked about public education and we talked about water quality. But three of my favorite conversations today revolved around faith and how faith hope and love play a part in how we vote!

Attending the AMOS (A Mid-Iowa Organizing Strategy) Founding Convention today at the Horizon Event Center in Clive was a powerful and deeply inspiring experience.

Seeing more than 1,200 people from across Iowa gather under one roof to strengthen our democracy and work for the common good was a clear reminder of what is possible when we lead by listening.

We heard moving, firsthand stories about critical issues impacting our communities: protecting our water quality, supporting public education, expanding Silver Alert protections, strengthening our local emergency medical services, and securing work authorization for legal refugees.

As candidates, we were asked to listen intently and make a commitment to action. AMOS has consistently proven that lasting change doesn’t happen through division—it happens when communities build relationships across different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to act effectively in the public arena.

I am so grateful I took the time to show up, listen, and commit to ensuring that community voices are heard and valued. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to organize such an extraordinary event and bring together a packed house.

The first week of school is officially in the books, and I’m out knocking doors tonight!

One of my favorite things while I’m out in the district is spotting a Molly Buck sign in someone’s yard. It gives me a little boost every single time!

The first day of school is in the books! It was a great day at school, and a great night on the doors. One thing that is important to do while running for office and serving in office is to do the work. Even after a full day of school, it’s important to get out on the doors and listen to you. Thank you to everyone who opened their door to me tonight and had a conversation with me.

Today was a beautiful Saturday for knocking doors. I had lots of conversations with a variety of different folks. Today I talked to people who were worried about what the future holds for their children who are in their 20s and just striking out on their own in Iowa. I heard from young families with kids in daycare. I heard from one lady who was probably about my age her concerns about our mental health system, but the one conversation that sticks out in my mind today is one with a young man with two young children, who is ready for a change.
