For this Firefighter Friday - Please help us welcome Peter Jarmosevich to the Angel Fire Fire Department! Peter joined us in March 2026 and is currently serving on B Shift as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

While he might be new to our department, Peter is a seasoned veteran, bringing an impressive 21 years of dedicated service with him. In his previous chapter, he served as a Battalion Chief for a large metropolitan fire department. He also brings highly specialized skills to our crew, including certifications as a Hazmat Technician and in Wildland firefighting.

As it happens, Peter’s path was predicted over two decades ago—back in 2002, a personality test he took at UNM flagged "Firefighter" as his perfect career match. Time has proven that test 100% right. For Peter, the best part of the job is that every single day is different, and he loves getting to meet a wide variety of people.

When asked about the best part of serving Angel Fire, Peter didn't hesitate: "The people up here are great! Honest, hard-working, salt-of-the-Earth type folks."

Peter’s Top Safety Tip: Don't wait to call 911 until an emergency is completely out of control. If you think you need help, just make the call.

Life off-duty: When he’s not in uniform, Peter keeps busy with a fascinating mix of hobbies. You can find him camping, hiking, gardening, cooking, doing metalwork, or tending to his bees. He also confesses that he would happily eat spaghetti just about every single day...if his wife would let him!!

Peter is married to his beautiful wife, who serves the community as a flight nurse. Together, they share a super fun 3-year-old son and two beloved dogs.

Welcome to the department, Peter! We are incredibly grateful to have you join us.

The pad work for the new Fire Station 1 (FS1) is officially complete, thanks entirely to the incredible hustle of our own Streets and Public Works Department.

We extend our gratitude and appreciation to Kurt Eppler and members of his crew Jesus Meraz, Theadore Maes, Oscar Padilla, Josh Candalaria, and Benito Jaramillo. These guys truely went above and beyond!!

When the project needed them most, this crew stepped up without hesitation to tackle the grueling foundational work. They logged long hours moving tons of earth, grading the site and prepping it for the next phase. Their willingness to take on this massive task kept the entire project on track.

Because of their hard work, FS1 now has a rock-solid foundation that will support our emergency vehicles and community for decades to come. Public Works and Streets crews are often the unsung heroes of city progress, working behind the scenes to keep our town moving forward. We owe them a massive thank you for stepping up, executing flawless work, and building the literal foundation of our safety.

Chair Members of the Angel Fire-Firewise Committee, Mike Laverty & Brian Lindsey, along with AFFD Chief Vance and Captain Romo were in attendance at the recent Cimarron Watershed Alliance (CWA) Annual Meeting with Board of Directors Elections & Field Trip at Lake View Pines. It was a fantastic day, great to see our partners and the progress that CWA has done with the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG). This Grant has helped CWA and their partners remove Hazardous fuels from Communities within Colfax County. AND this gets even better...work is set to begin for our portion of the Grant within Angel Fire, THIS SUMMER!!!! Mike Laverty was also voted-in as a Board Member of the CWA Board. Congrats Mike!!

Rick Smith, CWA and his Crew are ready to come to Angel Fire and hit the ground running! We can't wait to get to work with them on this and future projects to make Angel Fire a more resilient Community to Wildfire .
