**Cherokee County Drug Raid Unveils Stolen War Medals and Illegal Arms**

Andrews, NC – A significant narcotics operation has been dismantled in Andrews following a collaborative effort between the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Andrews police, leading to the recovery of a substantial amount of illegal drugs, fi****ms, and stolen property.

In a case that initially centered on the distribution of m**hamphetamine, narcotics agents with the sheriff’s office discovered a web of criminal activity extending into the heart of Andrews. Their investigation intersected with a breaking and entering case on Cheoa Street, handled by Andrews Police Chief Caleb Stiles and Officer Bradley Bowen, which led to the discovery of a drug-for-property exchange network.

James Rogers became the focal point of the investigation after it was revealed that stolen items from the local residence were being traded for drugs at his house. This crucial information resulted in a raid on Rogers' residence.

During the raid, agents seized 81 grams of crystal m**hamphetamine, 58 Suboxone strips, 76 Buprenorphine pills, and a variety of other unidentified pills. In addition, an alarming array of illegal fi****ms was discovered, including sawed-off shotguns and guns with obliterated serial numbers.

In a poignant twist, among the recovered items were World War II medals, deeply personal military accolades that belonged to the father of the burglary victim. These medals, with immeasurable sentimental value, were traded for narcotics but have been thankfully restored to their rightful owner following the operation.

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

Around 10:23 a.m. on Sept. 6, 2023, Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies encountered a motorist who was wanted in connection with six outstanding warrants related to several charges including indecent liberties with a child, violating a domestic violence protective order, felony m**h possession and trespassing.

When deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop, the motorist accelerated and led authorities on a chase from Marble into Andrews. The motorist ignored several red lights and his speed exceeded 100 miles per hour at one point during the chase, posing a very serious safety risk to other drivers and pedestrians.

Eventually, an officer deployed spike strips and the motorist allegedly swerved in the officer’s direction. The spikes blew out the vehicle’s left rear tire, but the motorist continued speeding towards Topton on a flat tire and then turned around. Fearing that the driver would continue speeding back toward the congested area of Main Street, authorities forced the motorist off the road on Wakefield Road, ending the chase after about 15 minutes.

The motorist, identified as 42-year-old Robin Farmer Stalcup, was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

“I’m glad that this came to an end without any serious injuries,” Andrews Police Chief Rocky Burrell said.

If you decide to drink and drive in Andrews this St. Patrick’s Day, luck will not be on your side.

The Andrews Police Department will increase patrols to keep impaired drivers off the roads during the statewide St. Patrick’s Day Booze It or Lose It enforcement campaign, March 13-19.

“Let's make this St. Patrick’s Day a safe one by avoiding the risks that come with drinking and driving,” Chief Burrell said. “Planning ahead for responsible ways to get home from any St. Patrick’s Day celebration is key. Save yourself from hefty DWI fines, protect other drivers on the road, and keep yourself out of harm's way.”

Last year, 225 motorists were killed or seriously injured in alcohol-related crashes on North
Carolina roads during the St. Patrick’s Day enforcement campaign period. Two of those crashes occurred in Cherokee County.
