Hey Everyone!
We are going to try and be a little more active moving forward! We thank everyone who has shared our recruiting posts and have supported us! There will be a TON of updates when our recruits start their training in Oct/Nov!
But we wanted to let people know some of the things we do, what is going on in the Department and what we are doing to make our Town of Andrews a little bit better and safer as YOUR fire Department.
If you see that big number 4 on the side of Ladder 1? That means our department is ISO (Insurance Service Offices) rated at level 4. This scale is a 1-10 scale with 1 being the best rating (think of places like Myrtle Beach, Charleston) and 10 being no fire protection at all.
The Andrews Fire Department being rated at the 4 level is consistent with national standards for small volunteer Fire Departments. This doesn't mean we are going to be resting on our laurels! We are always looking for ways to improve and improve that rating and the services we offer, but that cost time and money, but we will get there!
You might ask what this all means to me??......Well here is what it means!
If you are a homeowner in Andrews, you should reach out to your Insurance Agent to make sure that they are recognizing your fire protection at the Level 4, if they aren't it could be costing you money on your homeowners insurance! There are also considerations of how close your home is to the nearest fire hydrant and how far away from the nearest fire station. But it is definitely worth the phone call to your insurance agent to check!
In most cases, moving from ISO Class 4 to ISO Class 5 can increase your homeowners insurance premium by roughly 15–20%, or about $400–$500 per year for a typical mid‑value home, though the exact difference depends on your insurer, location, and other risk factors. (source wealthvieu.com)
