POLITICAL SIGNS IN THE PUBLIC RIGHTS-OF-WAY
Election season is in full swing and the signs are everywhere, literally! To help address concerns about campaign signs placed in public rights-of-way (ROW), we’re asking all political campaigns to remove any signs located in the ROW or within sight triangles.
State law and local ordinances require campaign signs to be placed only on private property. Beginning January 22nd, City inspectors will begin issuing notices for signs found in the public ROW by:
1. Posting a written 72-hour notice and a yellow marking flag on the sign, and
2. Marking the approximate limits of the ROW with temporary yellow paint near the sign’s location.
Signs that remain in the ROW after the 72-hour notice may be considered abandoned and impounded by the City.
