Almost as though it had been planned, a bald eagle soared over Andover Town Offices just moments after the conclusion of today's September 11th Remembrance Ceremony. A remarkable and fitting conclusion to a solemn morning of remembrance.

Never forget.

This morning, the Town of Andover welcomed the community to Town Offices for a moving ceremony of remembrance marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Together, we remembered those who lost their lives on that tragic morning and honored the first responders, service members, and countless others who answered the call to serve in the aftermath, many making extraordinary sacrifices in service to others and our nation.

Four wreaths were placed at the base of the flagpole in front of Town Offices in memory of the four Andover residents who lost their lives on September 11: Christopher Morrison, Millie Naiman, Betty Ong, and Len Taylor.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their memories, and reflect on the courage and unity shown by our nation in the face of tragedy.

From new security vestibules at Doherty Middle School and West Middle School to new furniture at Andover High School and other upgrades throughout the district, crews made the most of the summer months to keep important projects moving forward.

Take a look at some of the work completed across Andover’s schools this summer.

The Town of Andover’s Tree Committee is working to find, document, and honor remarkable trees throughout the community through its Deep Roots program. One of Andover’s most remarkable trees is Rupert, a striking white oak in the Bald Hill Conservation Area that has stood for more than 250 years. Over the centuries, he has remained as a living connection to Andover’s history while continuing to provide important habitat and environmental benefits today.

Learn more about Rupert, his place in Andover’s history, and why trees like him are so important to the community.

Know another remarkable tree in Andover? The Tree Committee wants to hear about it. Submit your nomination to the Deep Roots program and help us identify the trees that help tell Andover’s story.
