April Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month Ceremonies yesterday in Grimes County!

Somer Smith, Executive-Legal Assistant for the County Attorney’s Office attended to read names and recognize the 41 children in our community who have been served by Scotty’s House from Grimes County. Each name shared during this ceremony represents a child, a story, and a path toward healing.

In 2025, Scotty’s House served 1,019 children across the Brazos Valley.

Huge Thank You to Scotty’s House for the resource they provide to Grimes County!

💙Scotty’s House: Brazos Valley’s Child Advocacy Center provides compassionate forensic interviews, medical exams, counseling, family advocacy & community education to ensure safety, healing & justice for children victimized by abuse

🚨 ATTENTION Grimes County Parents - this is an important conversation

City of Navasota is having a Healthy Relationships Workshop for teens and parents at the Navasota Library.

This isn’t just another event…
it’s a real conversation about:

⭐️ recognizing early signs of control

⭐️ setting healthy boundaries

⭐️ and helping our youth understand what real love actually looks like

In the County Attorney’s Office we handle Protective Orders, Juvenile Justice, and Child Protective Law: which have the need for Healthy Relationship Discussions.

Yesterday, the Grimes County Attorney’s Office, with the assistance of the Texas Children’s Commission, hosted a very successful Child Welfare Law CLE course here in Grimes County!

This training was designed to equip our local attorneys and Child Advocates with the tools and knowledge needed to ensure that families involved in the child welfare system receive the highest quality representation.

We are especially grateful to Judge James who oversees these types of cases in Grimes County and brings vast experience in child welfare law to the County. Her leadership and insight were instrumental in helping put this training together.

Thank you to the Judge James, the Texas Children’s Commission, and each of our outstanding speakers for investing in our legal community and, most importantly, in the children and families we serve.

Tori Ellis, Director of the DRC
