๐Ÿšจ Incident Report โ€“ Missing Child Located Safely ๐Ÿšจ

At approximately 6:23 AM this morning, the Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 3500 block of W. 700 N. for a report of a missing person involving a 6-year-old child.

A large-scale search operation was quickly initiated involving the Madison County Sheriffโ€™s Department, Madison County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department (Station 30), East Madison Fire Territory (Station 52), Pipe Creek Twp Fire Department and numerous other assisting agencies and volunteers from across the area.

After an extensive search effort, at approximately 7:33 AM, the child was located by Pipe Creek Township Fire Department personnel operating a utility vehicle (Gator) at a nearby residence. We are happy to report that the child was found safe and unharmed. After being assessed by EMS personnel, the child was released back into the care of their mother.

Earlier this evening, members of the Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department spent time training on drafting operations and relay pumping operations to continue sharpening our water supply capabilities for rural fire responses.

Crews worked on establishing a draft from portable water sources while also practicing relay pumping evolutions between apparatus to simulate large-scale incidents where hydrants may not be readily available. These types of trainings are critical in helping ensure we can move large amounts of water efficiently and effectively to the fireground when every second counts.

Training like this helps build teamwork, communication, and confidence between operators and firefighters while preparing our members for real-world emergencies throughout our district and surrounding mutual aid areas.

A huge thank you to all personnel who took time out of their evening to train and continue improving their skills. The dedication shown by our members is what helps keep our community protected.

Yesterday at approximately 8:24 PM, Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department Station 30 was dispatched to the intersection of 500 N and 200 W for a reported motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, crews found two vehicles involved with heavy damage to both vehicles. One of the vehicles had caught fire following the crash. Prior to emergency crews arriving on scene, a couple of passing motorists acted quickly and were able to pull the occupant from the burning vehicle to safety. One patient was also found to have been ejected from one of the vehicles during the collision.

Firefighters and EMS personnel immediately began patient care, stabilization, and scene operations while additional assisting agencies responded to support the incident. Both patients were transported from the scene to local hospitals before later being flown to Indianapolis-area hospitals for further treatment.

Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank all assisting agencies for their help and teamwork during this incident, including East Madison Fire Territory, Edgewood Fire Department, Alexandria Firefighters Local #1649, Madison County Sheriff, Madison County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency, and Baker's Towing.

Please keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers as they continue their recovery.
