Over the last week, City of Anderson Firefighters have once again shown that serving this community goes far beyond emergency calls. Sometimes it means helping the smallest members of our community get safely back home. 🐶🦆

Earlier this week, Brother Tyrone Fedrick found a small lost Chihuahua behind Station 4. After being missing for nearly two full days, the pup was cared for by the crew on Engine 4 until contact was made with the owner and the dog was safely reunited with its family.

Las t Saturday, Engine 7 was called to assist Animal Control with 14 baby wood ducks trapped inside a storm drain. Working together, crews were able to safely rescue the ducklings and reunite them with their parents.

Whether it’s responding to emergencies, training for the worst days, or taking the time to protect animals in need, our firefighters are proud to serve the City of Anderson every single day.

This EMS Week, we want to recognize the incredible work being done every single day by the paramedics and EMTs of Anderson Firefighters Local 1262. From life-saving medical calls to comforting patients and families on their worst days, our members continue to answer the call with professionalism, compassion, and dedication. Our firefighter/paramedics and EMTs are also among the busiest EMS providers in the State of Indiana, responding to thousands of emergencies each year while continuing to provide exceptional care to our community.

This week is also a special one as one of our own, Brother Nicholas Cole, recently graduated paramedic school and officially became the 45th paramedic on the Anderson Fire Department.

Over the last 14 months, Nick balanced sleepless nights, countless hours of clinicals, difficult exams, and the demanding schedule that comes with paramedic school, all while continuing to serve this community. His hard work, perseverance, and commitment to becoming the best provider possible represent exactly what this profession is about.

We also want to recognize the future of our EMS division, as three more Anderson firefighters have started paramedic school within the last month.

To all of our firefighter/paramedics, EMTs, and EMS providers, thank you for what you do for the City of Anderson 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Last year, Anderson Firefighters responded to a serious crash on the interstate that required extensive extrication. Crews worked to free a patient trapped in her vehicle, utilizing specialized equipment and coordinating with IU Health LifeLine for transport.

This past week, that same patient invited our crews, the flight crew and the doctors who responded, to meet her at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where she had the honor of presenting a green flag at for Indy 500.

Responding units included C-Shift Engine 8, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, and Medic 1, with assistance from East Madison Fire Territory.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to reconnect and proud of the work our firefighters do every day, both on the scene and long after the call is over.

Over the past week, members of Anderson Fire Department have been putting in work, both on and off the job, to better serve our community and strengthen our profession.

🔧 Training & Professional Development
A-Shift Rescue Truck Private Jacob Daulton spent time at FDIC, completing three hands-on extrication courses: Heavy Extrication, Advanced Auto Extrication, and Man vs. Machine. These are high-level, real-world trainings that directly translate to better outcomes on some of our most challenging calls.

Closer to home, City of Anderson firefighters have also been polishing their rescue skills. Our crews recently trained in advanced rope rescue techniques at the department’s training center. These skills are critical for rescues in high-angle environments, confined spaces, and other situations where traditional access isn’t possible. This type of training ensures our members are prepared for whatever they’re called to face.

🤝 Service Beyond the Call
Brother Tra Burt has been busy representing Local 1262 off duty as well. He recently delivered a proceeds check to the Sista's of Royalty, Inc. from our February fundraising efforts, continuing our commitment to giving back to the community.

📣 Union Leadership & Communication
Tra also attended the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana Communications Training Academy in Indianapolis, joining union leaders from across the state. The training focused on communication planning, branding, social media, and media engagement, tools that are essential for effectively advocating for our members and connecting with the public. Participants even took part in mock press conferences and media interviews to sharpen their skills.

From the training ground to the community and the union hall, Anderson firefighters continue to lead from the front.

We’re happy to share that Joey was released from the Heart Center yesterday and is now fully on the road to recovery. 💪
