SC Firefighter Mobilization - Mutual Aid Support

Early Saturday morning, the SC Firefighter Mobilization system made a request to Regions 1, 6, & 7 for personnel and equipment to assist McCormick County with a significant fire occurring at their counties high school. The AFD was able to support the request with Rescue 103 and an element of the Upstate Incident Management Team.

Once on site, the crew from Rescue 103 was able to support fireground operations including salvage and overhaul work as well as extensive equipment cleanup to get McCormick apparatus back in service. The IMT personnel, with the help of the mobile command post from Anderson County Emergency Management, was able to provide overhead support to incident’s command team with a Public Information Officer, Resource Unit Leader and an IC Advisor.

SC Firefighter Mobilization is a program of the SC State Fire Marshal’s Office that coordinates the various fire service teams and resources when incidents grow beyond local capabilities. “Firefighters helping firefighters”. The AFD is proud to be able to help when needed, knowing it may be our community one day to need the help. Thank you to Anderson County Emergency Management for supporting the request with the counties mobile command post.

🚑🩺🏥IT’S NATIONAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK! 🚑🩺🏥

EMS Week is a chance to recognize the people who can somehow function at 3:00 a.m., interpret a cardiac rhythm bouncing down the highway, calm a chaotic scene in seconds… and still argue over where to stop for coffee afterward.

At the Anderson Fire Department, we are incredibly thankful for the relationships and partnerships we share with Medshore Ambulance Service and Anderson County Emergency Medical Services. Day after day, call after call, we work side by side with some of the most dedicated EMTs and Paramedics around.

There may be a little friendly firehouse rivalry from time to time — and yes, we know somebody from EMS is probably still looking for their missing trauma shears — but when the tones drop, the teamwork, professionalism, and trust between our agencies is second to none.

Together, we’ve shared long shifts, difficult calls, lifesaving moments, and plenty of laughter in between. More importantly, we’ve shared a commitment to taking care of this community and the people who call it home.

To all EMTs and Paramedics during EMS Week: thank you for your compassion, skill, sacrifice, and partnership. The Anderson Fire Department is proud to work alongside you every day.

Gone but not forgotten.

May 14, 2004 - LODD
Firefighter Michael Stokes Martin, 18
Ebenezer Volunteer Fire Department. Belton, South Carolina
Firefighter Martin was responding to an EMS incident in his personal vehicle, a 2004 Ford pickup truck. As Firefighter Martin responded to the incident, the right wheels of the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle came back onto the roadway and then left the roadway again on the left side, struck a culvert, and came to rest against a tree. Firefighter Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighter Martin was not wearing a seat belt, although an air bag was deployed as a result of the crash. The law enforcement crash report stated that the speed of the vehicle prior to the crash was 65 miles per hour in a 45 miles-per-hour zone.

Prayers going out to the officer’s family, friends and teammates.
