Madison County's Ed Castor was named the ninth Point of Light by President Bush. At that time, Ed was a factory worker who had gone from being a non-reading adult to the leader of a national literacy initiative, based on his great desire to change his own life by learning to read. With the help of his tutor, Madison County Literacy Coalition volunteer Sue Carter, he overcame the learning differences that had kept him from learning to read in a traditional classroom setting. We celebrate Ed, and the other Points of Light recipients, who have worked selflessly to make a difference in the lives of others.
