California forests have been significantly impacted by wildfires and you can help regrow these landscapes and restore the health of our forests. If you are a private landowner with potential viable cones, please consider reaching out to CAL FIRE to find out how your healthy trees may be able to help with reforestation throughout California.

The Western Shasta Resource Conservation District (WSRCD) is seeking a CFO to assist with financial review and support of all associated district finances. Resource Conservation Districts are non-regulatory state agencies that work to support local conservation efforts on private and public lands. We partner with landowners and managers, government agencies, and stakeholder groups to enhance natural resources by providing education and outreach programs, technical assistance, and project
implementation.

WSRCD is requesting proposals from qualified candidates to fulfill the role of WSRCD CFO. All proposals must include the following:

📢CALLING ALL FOREST LANDOWNERS!!!!
Register now for a UCANR California Forest Stewardship Workshop

Online, Wednesdays September 16 - November 18, 2026, and in-person Sunday, October 4th in Shasta County.

Join the workshop to better understand, manage and protect your forests by receiving technical assistance, developing a forest management plan, and having a resource professional visit your forest.

Workshop topics include:
🌲Forest management objectives and planning
🌲Forest health
🌲Forest and fire ecology, wildlife, watersheds
🌲Fuels reduction and forest resource marketing
🌲Mapping, inventory, and silviculture
🌲Project development & permitting
🌲Getting professional help and cost-share opportunities

Participants will utilize online resources on their own time to complete learning modules and short activities.

Zoom meetings with all participants and presenters will take place once a week on Wednesdays, 6:00pm-7:30pm. The in-person field day will cover silviculture, forest inventory and mapping activities. Participants who complete the workshop will be eligible for a free site visit with a California Registered Professional Forester, California Certified Burn Boss, or California Certified Range Manager.

Meet the WSRCD Summer Forestry Interns! Our crew has been hard at work learning from our registered professional forester and additional staff leaders to help create forest management plans for land owners throughout Shasta County!

Since joining us a few weeks ago, the crew has already been collecting data points, creating maps with ArcGIS, and learning how to timber cruise. They have also completed Cone Camp at Trinity Lake to learn how to identify, monitor, and collect seeds from California's native conifers to support forest restoration. They've spent countless hours tromping through poison oak, blackberry, and manzanita to help our community care for their timber lands.

As they start to head off to their next school and life adventures, we extend a hearty THANK YOU to this diligent, hard working, funny crew!
