πŸ“ Covington County Commission Meeting Recap – March 24, 2026

The Covington County Commission met Tuesday morning with all commissioners present. Chairman Michael Smith called the meeting to order, Kyle Adams gave the invocation, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairman Smith.

πŸ—£ Public Comments
Citizens addressed concerns about dogs running loose in the county. The Commission discussed that voters previously declined to grant ordinance authority on this issue, but it could potentially be revisited in a future ballot.

Andrea and Kyle Miller also presented information about the proposed Gardens of Andalusia, a women’s treatment center, and requested support through the State Opioid Fund. The Commission asked that they first present to the City of Andalusia before further consideration.

🚌 Department Updates
CATS Director Tami Baxley reported a bus will be sent back to the manufacturer for inspection, with a loaner provided. She also shared that their department received a clean review during their recent Tri-Management Review.

The Covington County Commission is currently accepting applications for the position of Engineering Assistant (Non-Certified) to support the County Engineer and Road Department with surveying, construction inspection, and project estimation for county road and infrastructure projects.

This position offers the opportunity to work directly with county engineering operations and play an important role in maintaining and improving the roads and infrastructure that serve our community.

Basic Requirements Include:
β€’ Possess or be able to obtain basic surveying skills
β€’ Experience in road construction inspection and working as a rod man on a survey crew preferred
β€’ Ability to calculate estimated quantities for construction projects
β€’ Successful completion of a minimum standards test administered by the County Engineer
β€’ Valid Alabama Driver’s License required

Starting pay will depend on qualifications and experience.
