This is the facebook home for the PFD Automatic Voter Registration ballot initiative, which would streamline government and reduce paperwork by linking voter registration to PFD applications. A ballot initiative in Alaska must move through a multi-stage process before it goes onto the ballot for a primary or general election. This ballot initiative has been approved as constitutional by Lieutenant Governor Mallott. Organizers are now responsible for obtaining the signatures of 28k Alaskan voters around the state. These signatures are due in January of 2016. The Attorney General has provided the following summary of the PFD Voter Registration initiative:
This act would instruct the Division of Elections (DOE) to register qualified Alaskans to vote when they apply for the permanent fund dividend (PFD). If a person registers to vote for the first time through this PFD process, DOE would check the person’s information with state records to ensure the person is an eligible voter. DOE would let citizens know if they have been added to the state registration list, or if their current voting address does not match the one provided on the PFD form. The notice would allow applicants to take themselves off of the registration list. The notice would also allow a person to register with a political party. Using the data from the PFD form, DOE would register qualified Alaskans to vote unless they opted out. Voter information would be confidential under existing state law.
