The Cabinet Society of Alaska was formed in 2008 just after the Muni of Anchorage smoking ban in 2007-8 which PROHIBITS SMOKING INSIDE ANY BUSINESS with no exceptions or exemptions. However after a lengthy legal battle it was reaffirmed that the non profit exemption was the only place that you could smoke but it had to be 1-a non profit with the State of Alaska, 2-no employees or volunteers, 3-not open to the public meaning temporary or short term membership and 4-in its own building, address and space. Thus the CSA was formed. Formed as a society for the study and appreciation of the arts of pipe and cigar production, history and enjoyment. Further, a library conference area was created for its members. Membership is bonafide requiring you to make the effort to join, conduct an interview and in turn you get 24-hour, 7 days a week access to the library conference facility located in midtown anchorage. The cabinet does not sell anything, does not conduct business, is not associated with any business and is exclusively existing to serve its members by providing a location to meet, relax and enjoy the library related to pipes and ci**rs. The CSA is the only organization in the state of alaska that formed in compliance with the Muni smoking ban and the 2017 state ban which prohibits ANY new non profits forming in any location after 1-Jan-2017.
