Why Support Anchorage Stream Academy? ASA will be a charter school located in East Anchorage offering an educational alternative to current public school options in Anchorage. ASAs STEM-based curriculum augmented with the humanities will employ an experiential approach to education. Learning within ASA will be couched in research based community projects providing a vital link between learning targets and the students’ lives. By connecting students with their community and adding much-needed relevance to the curriculum, ASA will go beyond measurable test results, challenging students to think critically and problem solve with confidence. This experiential approach to education is filling a critical void in the current public education approach within ASD. Purpose of the Program:
ASA will support students in developing the skills necessary to meet or exceed national, state and local standards. ASA students will become positive contributing members of society who:
have experience partnering with the local community;
have built a strong foundation for career readiness;
understand the strengths and limitations of technology;
realize that learning continues outside the classroom;
are defining their role in creating a more sustainable future;
recognize the interconnectedness and relevance of all disciplines.
