On May 15, the Japanese Immersion Program Completion Ceremony was held at Sand Lake Elementary School, where 33 students celebrated this important milestone. During the ceremony, Head Consul Hamada delivered the opening remarks, expressing profound respect and appreciation for the dedicated support and tireless efforts of the students’ families and teachers who have guided them throughout their journey. He also commended each graduate for their hard work and growth, and extended his heartfelt congratulations.

In addition, he expressed his hope that the graduates will continue their Japanese language studies at Mears Middle School and Dimond High School, and eventually serve as bridges between Japan and the United States. He concluded his remarks with words of encouragement for their future endeavors.

In the students speeches, the graduates reflected on how, upon entering the program, they could not understand Japanese at all and often cried every day. However, through six years of learning in Japanese alongside their classmates, they were able to encourage one another, create many cherished memories, and gain confidence. The student also expressed sincere gratitude to their parents for choosing the Japanese Immersion Program and supporting them throughout the years.

The Consular Office of Japan in Anchorage remains committed to supporting the continued development of Japanese language education in Alaska and the future success of Japanese language learners throughout the state🇯🇵
