📢 | Alaska Afterschool Network: 🔬 We're building Alaska’s future STEM workforce - one student at a time thanks to the Alaska Community Foundation's Vocational Fund for Alaska's Future.

Through our AmeriCorps STEM Coach program, young adults gain valuable workforce experience while bringing hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math opportunities to students across Alaska in a fun, out-of-school time setting!

Our AmeriCorps program creates a cycle: STEM Coaches build real-world skills and experience, while students gain confidence, curiosity, and early exposure to STEM careers.

SERVICE IN ACTION 🌲 | Last month, Serve Alaska joined the Student Conservation Association (SCA) team at Lake Clark National Park & Preserve and Port Alsworth, Alaska.

During their summer term, five AmeriCorps volunteers are making lasting improvements to the park, including constructing a new trail between the Tanalian Falls Trail and the park’s visitor center, building a new parking area to improve accessibility for visitors, and renovating the landscape around the visitor center in ways that will benefit the park and its community.

📢 SHOUTOUT: Thank you, Volunteers, for your dedication, hard work, and stewardship on this project. Your commitment to preserving Alaska's public lands helps create a more welcoming and accessible experience for everyone who visits Lake Clark National Park & Preserve.

ALUM OPPORTUNITIES 🗣️ | Hear from AmeriCorps alums that are serving in their communities and discover ways you can continue to get things done.

From school boards to state service commissions, alums are continuing to serve in local, statewide, and national efforts.

To explore these opportunities, America's Service Commissions (ASC) and Service Year (SYA) are hosting a webinar geared toward AmeriCorps Alums or soon-to-be AmeriCorps Alums. This webinar will cover how and why alums should serve on boards and commissions.

RESTORING RESURRECTION CREEK ⛰️ | Last week, the Serve Alaska team was able to visit Student Conservation Association(SCA)/AmeriCorps volunteers at the Resurrection Creek Restoration Project in Hope, Alaska.

SCA volunteers have been working through the summer to assist in the project, including building trails and re-vegetating stream banks.

Their work serves to assist in restoring a 2.2-mile segment of Resurrection Creek and 74 areas of riparian habitat in the lower and more accessible reaches of the creek.

(🔍: A riparian habitat is the zone right next to a creek or river where plants, wildlife, and soil conditions are influenced by the presence of water. It’s an important area for stabilizing stream banks, supporting fish and wildlife, and maintaining overall ecosystem health.)

From the project’s website, the restoration will “improve conditions within the Resurrection Creek watershed and provide long-term benefits for the stream, the salmon that inhabit it, nearby wildlife, and the many people that fish or use the creek for subsistence and recreation.”

The Resurrection Creek Phase II Restoration Project is made possible by a unique partnership between Trout Unlimited, Kinross Alaska, Hope Mining Company, National Forest Foundation, and the U.S. Forest Service.
