💙 Voices of the Journey: Programs & Educators 💙

In 2004, Vivian M. of Gingerbread House Child Care shared how Child Care Connection staff helped support her program through behavior management training, staff development, classroom quality improvement, and leadership coaching. She described the support as “a lifesaver on more than one occasion” and credited the partnership with helping children remain successfully in care while strengthening communication and morale within her center.

As thread celebrates 40 years, stories like Vivian’s highlight the lasting impact of supporting educators, programs, and the children they serve every day. 🌟

Anchorage Daily News reports: Anchorage Assembly looks to improve childcare options with slate of regulation changes. 👇

“Childcare advocacy nonprofit, thread, reports that over the last five years, 25% of all childcare businesses have closed statewide.

Stephanie Berglund, executive director of thread, said Alaska lost 1,400 early childhood educators during the pandemic, but fewer businesses are closing as state and city funding has helped stabilize the industry.

The Anchorage Assembly is considering code changes that would affect the 190 childcare businesses in the municipality, and the state has added funding to improve retention for childcare employees after the industry saw an exodus during the COVID-19 pandemic. To celebrate 40 years of thread, we’re honored to continue sharing this special documentary highlighting our history, the voices of our community, and the vision of thread for the next 40 years. 💕

From our beginnings in a closet in 1986 to today, thread has championed quality early education, strengthened child care programs, and connected thousands of families to critical resources. What started as a small but mighty effort has grown into a statewide movement focused on building a stronger future for Alaska’s children.

Here’s to 40 years of impact - and to the future we’re building together for Alaska’s children. ♥️

💙 Voices of the Journey: Programs & Educators 💙

“Dear Child Care Connection, thank you for the stipend — the $400 is a blessing! I appreciate the reward for continuing my education. I feel the benefit of my education in my classroom every day. Thank you for your encouragement.”

— Dawn N., 2004

Dawn’s story is a reminder that when educators are supported, entire classrooms and communities benefit. Thank you to all the child care providers and early educators who continue learning, growing, and shaping brighter futures for Alaska’s children. 🌟
