Safety & Security through Grit & Skill!
Our buoy tender crews safeguard the nation’s waterways through their dedication and technical expertise.
Their hard work ensures commerce flows safely as we continue to control, secure and defend our inland ports and waterways and Marine Transportation System — The network of ports and waterways driving $5.4 trillion in annual economic activity.
Six buoy tender crews from the Alaska region gathered in Juneau, Alaska, for the annual Buoy Tender Roundup, an event that strengthens operational success by providing specialized training, critical services, and a chance to build camaraderie.
The roundup also features the Buoy Tender Olympics, a competition providing a twist on everyday training. Events include the chain pull, heaving line toss, and the legendary “heat-and-beat.”
Crews aboard Alaska’s buoy tenders maintain 1,350 navigational aids across 33,000 miles of rugged coastline—all while supporting the Coast Guard’s broader missions of border control and territorial integrity, search and rescue, environmental protection, and law enforcement.
