Entitled “The Energy We Have,” this neighborhood-scale projection installation transforms empty windows into canvases for public art and community dialogue by combining thermal imaging video, film, music, circus arts, and dance.

The installation draws attention to the literal and metaphoric energy, both visible and hidden, that powers our full selves, downtown, and city. While watching thermal video of circus and dance from the street, participants are also asked to reflect on what gives them energy, where their energy comes from, and how they measure energy efficiency.

The project suggests the power and promise of weatherization and energy efficiency technologies to address our community’s looming natural gas crisis, while also cautioning against reductive approaches to residential energy efficiency policy.  Thermal imaging technology is typically used to identify temperature differences in the home, and by extension, places that are opportunities for weatherization. But thermal imaging technology has also been used to survey and control. The art engages with how energy efficiency is quantified and valued and what audiences benefit from current framings. We're excited to announce that we'll be transforming the amphitheatre at Cuddy Family Park into an open-air movie theatre for five Sundays in January and February! Join us for Free outdoor films, including work created by participants in the See Stories projects & AK Filmmakers. Sundays Jan 11-Feb 8 at 6PM. free Hot drinks & Snacks. Dress FOR THE WEATHER (*This is an outdoor event & weather dependent. Canceled if it is below 15°F, if there is heavy snowfall, or strong winds).
