📚🙌 MYSTERY AUTHORS LUNCHEON: AMEA members and Board Directors showed up for the community Sunday, April 19, attending the Anaheim Public Library Foundation’s Mystery Authors Luncheon.

🙌 ANAHEIM PARK RANGERS HELPED REUNITE A MISSING MINOR WITH HER PARENTS.

On Sunday, April 12, during a routine patrol at John Marshall Park, Senior Park Ranger Hector Garfio and Park Ranger Trainee Gabriel Ge**er identified a minor who had been reported missing since April 10. They facilitated her safe return to her family by notifying police.

LEADERSHIP CHANGE AT AMEA: We want to thank Jonnae Barreras for her years of service as AMEA President and longtime Board member dating back to 2009. Effective March 3, Jonnae has resigned her position. We wish her all the best going forward.

Per AMEA Bylaws, First Vice President Jason Perez has assumed the role of interim AMEA President for the remainder of the term, which ends in December.

Jason, second from left in the photo above, has worked for the City of Anaheim since 2015 as a Community Services Coordinator and has served on the AMEA Board since 2018. He joined the Executive Board as First Vice President in 2023 and serves as PAC Chair.

✊ AMEA HONORS DR. KING’S LEGACY

AMEA was proud to attend the Orange County Labor Federation’s MLK Labor Breakfast on Friday, standing in solidarity with union members across our community.

First VP Jason Perez and Treasurer Richard Sauceda represented AMEA as we honored Dr. King’s enduring vision of justice, equality, and dignity for working people.

Dr. King reminded us that civil rights and labor rights are deeply connected. His fight for economic justice continues to guide our work on behalf of Anaheim’s public employees.

We also appreciate the Anaheim Mayor and City Council members who joined in recognizing the importance of partnership between labor and local leadership.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

🎉 PROUD MOMENT FOR AMEA MEMBERS AT ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY—they recently won THREE prestigious honors in the American Library Association’s national PR Xchange Awards!

Competing against 297 entries from libraries nationwide, our talented members proved that great work happens when workers are supported and valued.

The winning campaigns included:

🏆 Feel the Rhythm of Reading - Digital campaign

🏆 Zombee’s Winter Reading Fest - Print campaign
🏆 Literacy on the Go! Library Card - Materials promoting services

This recognition shows what happens when library workers have the resources and support to innovate. Our members competed and won through creativity, dedication, and teamwork. These awards reflect the value of investing in public workers. When cities support their employees, communities thrive!
