🍎 September is Attendance Awareness Month!

Every day at school matters. Every lesson matters. Every opportunity to learn matters.

When students miss school regularly, even a day here and a day there, those absences add up. Students miss valuable instruction, classroom experiences and opportunities to build the skills they need to succeed.

That is why attendance is a priority across Anaheim Elementary School District. We are grateful for our attendance leads, school teams, teachers, administrators and staff who work closely with students and families throughout the year to encourage strong attendance and help remove barriers that may keep students from school.

And to our AESD families, thank you for making school attendance a priority. One of the most important things you can do for your child’s education is also one of the simplest: make sure they are at school, every day and on time.

Showing up matters. 💙

This weekend, AESD welcomed the third cohort of our Administrative Credential Program, offered in partnership with Cal State Fullerton. Fifteen AESD certificated employees are beginning the two year program as they prepare for future leadership opportunities within our District.

During their first session, Cabinet members welcomed the cohort and shared their personal “why” for choosing educational leadership, while Director Rhonda Robertson provided an overview of AESD data and District priorities.

A special thank you to Tammie Ledesma and April Ortiz for organizing and supporting this program for our AESD team.

We’re excited to cheer on Cohort 3! 💙🎓

🌎💙💚 Language Legends in action!

During yesterday’s AESD Back to School Night, our Language Legends put their language skills to work while giving back to their community!

Through AESD’s Language Legends program, high school students who participated in Dual Language Immersion programs are trained to provide interpreting support for our schools and families. Yesterday, these talented students joined us at Back to School Night, helping families communicate with teachers and staff while earning community service hours and gaining real world interpreting experience.

A special thank you to Rhonda Robertson, Director of the Department of Assessment, Translation, & Accountability (DATA), and our incredible AESD translation team for training and preparing our Language Legends for this opportunity. Their guidance gives students the skills and confidence to step in and support our families when it matters most.

And of course, a big thank you to our Language Legends for sharing their time, talents and language skills with our AESD families. You helped make Back to School Night even more welcoming and accessible for our families! 💙💚

📚💙💚 What a special morning at the Anaheim Central Library!

Today, AESD families enjoyed a special tour made possible through the partnership between the Anaheim Public Library, our AESD Educational Services team and our School, Family and Community Engagement team.

Families arrived before the library opened to the public, explored its many resources and programs, and signed their children up for a special library card created just for AESD students!

AESD Board President Jackie Filbeck, who also serves on the Anaheim Public Library Board; Superintendent Jesús Chavarría; Dr. Moreno, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services; Maria Villegas, Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Early Childhood Education; and Cecilia Román, Director of School, Family and Community Engagement, along with her .aesd team, all came together to make this special experience possible for our families.

A special thank you to Audrey A. Lujan, who has played an important role in building this partnership, and Jon Andersen, Principal Librarian for Public Services, for their continued support.

Thank you, Anaheim Public Library, for being such a wonderful literacy partner! 📖💙

Next tour: September 30 at the Sunkist Branch.

AESD joined the City of Anaheim to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Boysen Skate Park, located just down the street from Roosevelt Elementary School. Our Roosevelt students had a front row seat to this special moment alongside Superintendent Jesús Chavarría and Board President Jackie Filbeck. Congressman Lou Correa, Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken, Mayor Pro Tem Carlos Leon, Councilmember Norma Campos Kurtz, additional members of the Anaheim City Council and other community leaders were also in attendance.

The new skate park will become Anaheim’s 9th and will feature a skate bowl, rails, ledges, spectator seating, shaded areas and new landscaping. Even more special, local children and families helped shape the plans by sharing their ideas for what they wanted to see in their neighborhood.

For our Roosevelt students, today was more than a groundbreaking. It was an opportunity to see firsthand that young voices matter and that when a community comes together, their ideas can help shape the places they call home. .aesd
