Mini mock emergency drill tomorrow from 10-1, and will consist of a brush fire scenario in the Upland Drive area of the island. Please be patient if traveling to and from the ferry during these times. Some members of the “Guemes Emergency Team” will be on traffic duty, so you may be asked to stop for a short time while the traffic detail is being worked out.

We still need some volunteers to act as residents fleeing the scene. If this is for you, please meet at Upland Drive tomorrow at 10 am.

Thanks,
Chief Cole

MINI MOCK EMERGENCY DRILL SATURDAY MAY 16TH, FROM 10 TO 1 PM
The Guemes Island Fire Department will be working in conjunction with GET (Guemes Emergency Team) on Saturday, May 16th, from 10 am to 1 pm. This will be a mini mock emergency drill and will consist of a simulated brush fire in the area of Upland Drive on Guemes Island. GIFD will be training on the scene with wildland tools and our fire trucks. There will be pretend residential evacuations, and an evacuation center will be set up at the church for the pretend residents fleeing the scene. Community members are encouraged to participate or observe to understand emergency response procedures better and improve preparedness for actual emergencies.
If you would like to be a part of this exercise, please get in touch with Fire Chief Olivia Cole at 360-395-8047

Feel free to watch the training process, but do not pull down the driveway. You must park on the side of the road and observe from there.

**Burn Piles on Guemes Island**

With the nice weather we've been having, I've noticed an increase in burn piles on the island. This is fine, but I want to remind everyone to keep them within the legal parameters, which is a maximum size of 4’ x 4’ or smaller. If your burn pile is larger than this, you will need a permit.

Please remember that it is ILLEGAL to burn any of the following materials:
- Garbage
- Household trash
- Lumber
- Building construction waste
- Demolition debris

Thank you for your cooperation!
