Officially called Skagit County Fire Protection District 11, is a class 7/8 rural volunteer fire department covering 15 square miles on the South end of Fidalgo Island South of Anacortes, Washington to the Island / Skagit County line.

Mt Erie Fire Department has a history of generational members. YEsterday on a small brush fire, Our Asst Chief Josh Hunter was working for his son who was a Mt Erie FF and now works for DNR.
DNR arrived first and ICT 5 (Trainee) Wes Hunter took command. Arriving right behind them was his Dad Josh on the District brush truck. Crews worked for about and hour to ensure the fire was controlled.

The fire service is family in so many ways. we are like many here in the valley that have family together on the department and are the second or third generation of servents.

The burn ban has been on for almost 2 months now. Things are very dry.

DO NOT BURN BRUSH OR ANYTHING!!!

Yesterday a homeowner was lucky when the person they had clearing their property decided to burn some weeds. The 50 ft by 50ft area that burned was heading for the house when the neighbors called in for smoke coming from the area. Thanks to our Dept of Natural Resources (DNR) Eng 5203 partners that were able to get on this fire first and keep it from spreading.

Campfires are a fire in a pit with you sitting next to it with water and in a designated area. Please go to our website or the Skagit Fire Marshal's Office for the exact details.

Mt Erie Fire Department will be doing annual training with LifeFlight helicopter Ambulance tonight at Fidalgo School in the back field. We will be landing a helicopter for hands on training at approx 7 pm tonight and should be done by 8 pm.

Ever wonder what is inside the big tan building that says Fire Station 1 on the outside?
Come to Mt Erie Fire Station 1 Saturday June 27 from 1pm to 3 PM and meet the Volunteer firefighters, see the trucks, and have some fun.
Parking is available in front of the school house or in the parking area that will have signs saying open house parking on the west side of the station.

Burn Ban begins June 15, 2026, in Unincorporated Skagit County.

Due to current and forecasted weather conditions, a modified burn ban on all residential and land-clearing fires in unincorporated Skagit County will take effect at 12:01 A.M. on June 15 and remain in effect until further notice. Skagit County will no longer issue permits for these activities, and existing permits will be suspended on the effective date of the burn ban.

Recreational and cooking fires, limited to 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet high, remain allowed when safety precautions are followed, except as noted below. Recreational or cooking fires may consist only of charcoal, seasoned firewood, or propane-fueled fire pits and must meet the following requirements:
•
Fires are allowed only within enclosures AT LEAST 14 inches high, no wider than 3 feet, and constructed of cement blocks, stones, or #10-gauge steel.
•
Burning materials must be kept BELOW the enclosure's top.
•
ALWAYS have a charged garden hose or two 5-gallon buckets of water available.
•
Portable outdoor fire pits shall not be operated within 15 feet of a structure or of combustible materials.
•
Recreational fires MUST BE 25 feet away from combustibles, standing timber, or overhanging tree branches.
•
Someone 16 years old or older must ALWAYS be present to monitor and/or extinguish any fire.
•
Always verify if there are any extra burning restrictions before starting an outdoor fire.
All outdoor burning, including recreational and cooking fires, shall be prohibited in the event of any of the following:
•
“Red Flag Warning” issued by the National Weather Service (https://www.weather.gov/fire/).
•
The Northwest Clean Air Agency issues a 'Stage 1 or Stage 2 Air Quality Burn Ban” due to wildfire smoke and air quality concerns that threaten public health (https://nwcleanairwa.gov/).
If you are within the limits of any incorporated city or town, contact your city fire department for current burning restrictions.

This is our 22 year of hosting this class.

The clearing operation on Taggart Quarry Rd is operating today causing smoke and flames to be see from a wide area. The District and DNR are monitoring the operation. DO NOT CALL 911 to report a forest fire.
