Learn more about the City's financial position at the Budget Open House on September 30 from 5 - 7 pm at City Hall. We need your help supporting the Library during this budget cycle.

The City of Anacortes invites the community to participate in a budget open house on Wednesday, September 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

Like many local governments in Washington State, the City is forecasting a gap between projected revenues and expenditures for the next budget year. In 2026, that gap was about $2 million, which was solved with a combination of layoffs and service reductions. For 2027, we are forecasting a gap of approximately $2.4 million. This gap is driven by revenue growth that is slower than inflation combined with operating expenses increasing faster than inflation. The City needs to carefully evaluate its priorities and identify long-term sustainable solutions for the future, and it invites public input as it makes those decisions.

The open house will begin with a brief presentation providing an overview of the City's financial position. The presentation will be followed by activities designed to gather community input and ideas. Those that are not able to attend the open house can still contribute to the conversation by completing the feedback form available at anacorteswa.gov/budget.

Community members are encouraged to:
-Share ideas for increasing City revenue
-Identify funding priorities and the services they value most
-Ask questions and learn more about the City's budget process

The City's budget decisions affect the services, programs, infrastructure, and community investments that residents rely on every day. The open house is intended to provide an opportunity for the community to participate early in the budget process and help inform the difficult decisions ahead. Community participation is encouraged and welcomed.
