Our schools are one of our biggest partners in health awareness and health advocacy! On Friday June 5th, the MC Health Department had the honor of tabling at St. Mary's Institute to talk about sun safety, water/swim safety, hand washing, safe tick removal and basic first aid response.

Summer and sun safety starts with knowing what sunscreen is best for you and your child.

Thank you to SMI for having us!

☕️ Sara’s Monday Morning Coffee 🚗

Sara here… with today’s important question: Is your child buckled correctly, or are we just hoping the car seat “looks right”?

Car seats can be confusing—straps, clips, rear-facing, forward-facing… sometimes it feels like assembling furniture without instructions.

The good news? Montgomery County has a Car Seat Technician and Car Seat Program to help make sure your little passengers are riding safely. Residents can request assistance through www.madeofsomethingstronger.com or call the local health department for support at 518-853-3531.

Because the only thing that should be taking a wild ride this summer is your vacation plans—not your car seat installation 😄

Buckle up out there—and keep the coffee hot! ☕️

🌟 Community Health Improvement Week 🌟

This week, we celebrate the power of working together to build healthier communities for everyone.

Community health improvement is about more than healthcare—it's about creating environments where people can thrive. From promoting healthy habits and preventing disease to supporting families, children, and older adults, every effort helps strengthen the health and well-being of our community.

The Montgomery County Health Department is proud to partner with local organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and community members to address health needs, improve access to resources, and support healthier futures for all.

Together, we can make a difference—one program, one partnership, and one healthy choice at a time.

💙 Thank you to everyone who helps make our community a healthier place to live, work, and play.

Stay safe this summer!

💜 National Cancer Survivors Day – June 7 💜

Today, we celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of cancer survivors in our community and across the world.

National Cancer Survivors Day is a time to honor those who have faced cancer, recognize the challenges they continue to overcome, and celebrate the hope that inspires others on their journey.

A cancer diagnosis can change a life, but survivors show us every day what perseverance, determination, and hope look like.

Today, we recognize:

💜 Cancer survivors and their incredible strength

💜 Families, friends, and caregivers who provide support

💜 Healthcare professionals who guide patients through treatment and recovery

💜 The importance of early detection, prevention, and ongoing care

Whether you are newly diagnosed, in treatment, in remission, or living beyond cancer, your story matters.

Together, we celebrate survivorship, honor those we have lost, and continue to support everyone affected by cancer.

Don't get TICKED this weekend! 🚫🐶

This picture shows the amount of ticks pulled from a dog after just a few hours outside. Even with tick prevention, it's important to be aware!

Here's how to protect you, your family and furry friends:

* **Check yourselves and pets thoroughly** after spending time outdoors, especially in wooded or grassy areas.
* **Use tick repellent** with DEET or picaridin on exposed skin.
* **Wear light-colored clothing** to spot ticks more easily.
* **Tuck pants into socks** to create a barrier.

Let's keep our Montgomery County families safe and strong! 💪
