Tomorrow, 4-18-2026, is National Linemen Appreciation Day. We want to say thank you to all the linemen and auxiliary crews at MCEPA for the work they do, often in some of the worst conditions, to provide reliable electric service to our customers. We are blessed to have some of the best guys in the business!

Although every day to us is lineman appreciation day, today we celebrated with lunch and prizes for our men. We appreciate their efforts through all types of weather events and day to day drama.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at the Lineman Expo yesterday. It's always inspiring to observe the next generation of linemen gaining practical experience and learning what it takes to power our communities.

Thank you to Tombigbee Electric for hosting this event.

The Tennessee Valley Authority Community Care Fund continues to support meaningful local projects through strong partnerships. In collaboration with Monroe County Electric Power Association and the CREATE Foundation, TVA is proud to contribute $7,000 to the Brad Freeman Walkway in Caledonia, Mississippi – enhancing outdoor recreation and quality of life for the community.

Mr. Freeman answered the call to serve his country as a student at Mississippi State University, leaving behind the promise of youth to defend freedom during World War II. Volunteering for the elite paratroopers, he entered foreign service on February 5, 1944, with the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Divison, serving as a mortarman in the Easy Company.
He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day, stood firm during Operation Market Garden, and endured the brutal winter of the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded in the defense of Bastogne. Despite his injuries, his determination carried him back to his unit, where he continued the fight through the final stages of the war, including the occupation of Berchtesgaden and Austria.
His courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment embody the very spirit of the Greatest Generation, and his legacy stands as a lasting testament of honor, resilence, and service.

On hand for the check presentation were Josh Wooten – TVA, Mike Clayborne – CREATE Foundation, Jane Kilgore - Community Organizer, Beverly Freeman Bowles – daughter of Brad Freeman, along with Monroe County Electric Power Association General Manager, Barry Rowland and Board Members Brenda Willis, Phyllis Lindsey, Mechelle Welch, Phil Prewitt, Phil Sullivan, Stan Brumley, Steven Reeves, Avery Duncan, and attorney Jason Sharp.
