I will be running with the backing of the Union Party of Amityville. I believe it’s time for a unified Village Board, made up of five individuals working as a cohesive team toward common goals. I was born here, I grew up here and I care deeply about the future of Amityville. My family has a history and first-hand knowledge of community involvement in Amityville. My grandfather, C. Wesley Powell, w
as an Amityville School Board Treasurer and my father, Wesley C. (Wes) Powell, is a former Village Trustee who remains active in many local organizations. Together with my lovely wife Beverly, we are raising the next generation; my son, Wesley S. Powell, is a Volunteer firefighter in the AFD and is employed as an EMT with the North Amityville Fire Company. My Dad, Wes and I currently own and operate The Powell Funeral Home on Broadway in Amityville and my son will join the firm as the sixth generation of the family’s New York State Licensed Funeral Directors. Amityville is wonderfully unique and I have numerous fond memories of growing up here. I remember my swimming lessons at the beach, working for the Highway department in the summer, playing Little League, ice skating in Peterkin Park, having my hair cut at Tom Sawyer’s Barber Shop where everyone would congregate to solve the world’s problems, buying candy at Fischer’s, eeling on the canals in winter and best of all, meeting my wife, the former Beverly Chebuske, who also grew up in the Village. I am a longtime supporter and member of numerous local organizations:
• Little League, Soccer League, volunteer soccer referee and Little League Coach
• Member of Kiwanis, the Historical Society, the Bay Village Civic Association and a past President of the Lions Club
• Longtime parishioner of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and have served as President of the Church Council
Over the next few months I will be walking Village streets and knocking on doors in order to meet and greet as many of my neighbors as possible and to ask for your support. If elected, I will promote continued fiscal responsibility while addressing quality of life issues that affect the Village that my family and I call home. I promise to serve you well.
