Yesterday's 9-11 Memorial Service was a testimony to the community's overwhelming support for the families of the victims and all of the first responders who gave of themselves to aid others on the tragic morning of 9-11-2001. We honored our neighbors who were lost on that day and those who continue to suffer the effects of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pa.
More than a national tragedy, September 11th was deeply personal here in the Village.
We honor Amityville residents Louise Lynch, Peter J. O'Neill, Jr., Matthew Garvey and David Halderman and grieve with their families and friends. 25 years have passed - 9,131 days of loss -- but we pledge to Never Forget.
Special thanks to all who participated in our Village service and to Mrs. Jenny Smith's students whose artwork was displayed at the Firehouse.
Prior to the service, a street sign was rededicated at the corner of Oak Street and Ketcham Avenue to Peter J. O'Neill, Jr. who was a cherished resident and Amityville Firefighter, whom we lost in the World Trade Center attack.
