Today is 988 Day, a national initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. You’ll see people wearing teal and purple today as these colors represent the importance of mental health and su***de prevention. The theme for this year's 988 Day is "988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough.” This is a reminder that you don’t have to be in crisis to reach out to 988. Whatever you’re facing, big or small, your reason for seeking support is reason enough. 988 is a free call and there is always someone there to talk to you.

From the National Weather Service:

Here's a quick update on today's heat threat. As of 11 a.m., heat index values have already crossed 100 degrees and are near 110 degrees in several areas. Expect afternoon heat index values to peak in the 107-112 degree range for most places.

These heat index values will lead to an increased risk of heat-related illness and a heat advisory is in effect area-wide through 7 p.m.

If you've got outdoor plans (and we know a lot of you do), take precautions to avoid heat-related illness.
* Stay hydrated. (Just to be clear, alcohol doesn't count as hydration.)
* Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
* Wear light colors and light-weight clothing.
* Never leave people or pets in unattended vehicles.
* Don't forget the sunscreen!
