Hampshire SLAP is a student group that focuses on connecting students to off-campus organizing as well as tightening the organizing between groups on campus. As college students, working on strengthening our political organizing skills, we want to engage with organizers off campus, learning from them and supporting them by connecting Hampshire students to their campaigns. Advertizing, emailing stu
dent groups, connecting different groups on campus, are a few of the ways in which we intend to connect off campus and on campus organizing. We have been meeting every week since the start of the spring 2015 semester, and we are already connected to organizations such as the OUR Walmart campaign and Jobs with Justice, where we send at least two representatives per meeting. Whether we try and mobilize students for a one day protest or routinely send student representatives to different off-campus group meetings, our goal is form reciprocal relationships wherein off-campus groups are leading the campaigns and student activists are responsive to the needs of the community. We know that as we interact with groups off campus, all our student organizing on campus will be stronger.
