📣Hey local college students!!📣
Are you looking for a way to be involved in the Amherst community?

Jones Library’s Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Committee seeks a college student member to serve on our board and attend monthly meetings.

What is JEDI ?
JEDI is a subcommittee of the Jones Library Board of Trustees. JEDI guides initiatives to help reach the stated goal for Amherst Public Libraries to ...

What does JEDI do?
> Promote inclusion and belonging for all community members
> Proactive outreach to underserved members of the community
> Raise awareness of the wide variety of free programs & services the library offers to everyone in the community

JEDI action areas include: library collections, programming, exhibitions, staff development & community outreach

Are you our ideal candidate?
> A college student who loves libraries and is eager to further the library’s commitment to the 5 Pillars of Belonging: welcomed, known, included, supported & connected
> Attend monthly committee meetings via Zoom (once or twice per year in person)
> Serve on task-based subcommittees to carry out agreed-upon projects
> Make a 1-year commitment to JEDI (2 years preferred)

📝 How Do I Apply?

Black Lives Matter Book of the Week:
"My Perfect Family" written by Khadijah VanBrakle ( )

Sixteen-year-old Leena has always wished for a big family… but when she discovers she has a Muslim grandfather and aunt she never knew, she learns that family comes with tangled histories she may not be able to heal. My Perfect Family is a warm, funny, and poignant contemporary young adult story that centers the complex relationships between mothers and daughters, and one that explores what it means to be a Black Muslim woman in America with frankness, humor, and insight. A thoughtful examination of the intersection between gender and religion, Khadijah VanBrakle's sophomore novel is a heartfelt tale of forging your own path - while loving those who stay by your side.

"VanBrakle realistically shows how religion can alienate, separate, and unite people. . . . An engrossing, emotionally rich meditation on faith, family, and the courage it takes to create your own story."
—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
