Did you know? Maude Neiding (1878 - 1959) was the very first Head Librarian of the Amherst Public Library, and dedicated forty-two years of her life to serving the community in that position, from 1906 - 1948! In addition to her devotion to the lifelong education of Amherst's residents, Maude also donated the land that would become the city's very first municipal park, a community gem that still bears her name today.

Introducing a new club for teens and adults! The Sandstone Strummers Ukulele Club is open to adult and teen ukulele enthusiasts at any level of experience. Just bring along a ukulele and your singing voice at 10:15am on the second Saturday of the month! Each monthly session features an eclectic selection of music, with lyrics and chords provided on the large screen! The first public meeting is this Saturday, September 12!

Open to adults and teens ages 15+. Younger children are welcome with a responsible adult.

Plant too many tomatoes this year? Are your friends and neighbors pretending not to be home when you stop by to unload your abundance of zucchini? Tired of watching your herbs and flowers wilt on the stem? Drop your extra harvest off in our special Community Garden Share area during library open hours through Saturday, September 12 and share with your community!

The Community Garden Share area is located on the Community Bookshelf in the first floor lobby, near the stairs.

Did you know that the library is turning 120 this month? We first opened our doors on September 19, 1906 and have proudly served our community ever since! The Amherst Public Library came to be thanks to local fundraising and a grant from the Carnegie Foundation, making us one of an estimated 800 Carnegie Libraries remaining in the world.

This photo, circa 1910s, shows the library in its early years. Our footprint is now many times the size of the original 1906 Carnegie building!

There are still spaces available for our September Adult Craft! Join us on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30pm or Thursday, September 17 at 2:30pm to make a macrame wristlet keychain, using beginner level macrame techniques. A variety of macrame cord colors will be available to choose from! This craft project is intended for adults and is suitable for ages 12+.

We're so excited to be one of the sponsors of Main Street Amherst Ohio's Amherst Art Fest this Saturday, September 5! Visit downtown Amherst from 4pm - 8pm to check out the artists and vendors, enjoy free entertainment for the whole family, and pick up one of the Rainbow Fish craft kits that Miss Jenelle put together!

Plant too many tomatoes this year? Are your friends and neighbors pretending not to be home when you stop by to unload your abundance of zucchini? Tired of watching your herbs and flowers wilt on the stem? Drop your extra harvest off in the special Community Garden Share area during library open hours from Tuesday, September 8 through Saturday, September 12 and share with your community!

The Community Garden Share area will be located on the Community Bookshelf in the first floor lobby, near the stairs. (If additional space is needed, it may extend to a small table in front of the Community Board.) All donated produce will be available first come, first serve. You do not have to leave produce to take some. There are no limits, but please only take what you will use.
