Amherst Town Hall Art Gallery Displays “Transformations in Nature” by Nancy Ratner

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst Town Hall Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of “Transformations in Nature,” an exhibition of paintings by local artist Nancy Ratner, on display through the end of December. The public is invited to meet the artist
at a free reception on Thursday, November 6th from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Amherst Town Hall (4 Boltwood Ave, Amherst). Refreshments will be served, and music will be performed by the
Amherst Autoharp Workshop.

Nancy Ratner shared: “Each season transforms the local woodlands and trails, and the scenic rivers and ponds of western Massachusetts. Whether I’m hiking or skiing or paddling, I find a sense of beauty and calm in the natural environment. I began trying
to recreate these feelings on paper about 35 years ago, first in watercolor and more recently in pastels. I am entranced by the way light and shadows at different times of the year transform a scene, and by the magical way pigment interacts with water and
paper, recreating a moment in time, and I hope others will also find a sense of calm in my paintings.”

The Town Hall Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Exhibits are coordinated by the Amherst Public Art Commission and artists are invited to apply to have their work displayed for the bi-monthly exhibits. Learn more about the Public
Art Commission and how to apply on their website:

Amherst Public Art Commission is interviewing. We have several open positons on this volunteer Commission.

"The Public Art Commission was established by Town Meeting on April 23, 1990, to foster greater community awareness of the interaction with public art, and through public art, promote cultural diversity and an improved quality of life for Amherst’s citizens. Responsibilities include developing guidelines for public art, proposing to the Town Manager and Town Council, an annual budget, seeking funding sources for public art, encouraging integration of art in public and private development, interacting with all Town Boards, serving as a resource in educating developers, officials, and committees about possibilities for public art; and developing policies for publicly owned works in Amherst."
