Amherst Seniors!

Come out and celebrate all the great work that Steve has done for our community

Friday 8 AM in the Large Activity Room at the Bangs Center

🫡🇺🇸 Honoring Steve Connor, Director of Central Hampshire Veterans' Services. After nearly 20 years of unwavering support and advocacy for our veterans in Amherst and neighboring communities, Steve will be retiring at the end of this week.

Join us in Amherst to celebrate with a special community breakfast on Friday, May 15 at 8:00 am in the Large Activity Room of the Bangs Community Center. Let’s fill the room with stories, laughs, and gratitude for everything Steve has done — and wish him all the best for what’s ahead!

All are welcome. Complimentary coffee and a continental breakfast will be served.

This event is part of CRESS's regularly scheduled Veterans Breakfasts for All, held on the first and third Friday of every month at the same time and place. Mark your calendars and join us for future breakfasts!

Update: The Town has officially entered the second phase of work for the Bangs Community Center Renovations. This phase will focus on the 2nd floor of the building.

The CRESS Department has temporarily relocated to the Pole Room on the lower level, where the Civil War Tablets were previously on display. The Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has temporarily relocated to the Glass Room on the lower level.

This phase of renovations is expected to continue until at least the middle of June. Upon completion of this phase, the DEI and CRESS Departments will be relocated back to their offices on the 2nd floor.

🚧 We’re working to make the Bangs Community Center better than ever! The Town of Amherst has begun a comprehensive renovation project which will improve health, safety, and accessibility features, including a new sprinkler system, electrical upgrades, HVAC improvements, and full ADA compliance. There will also be small but noteworthy improvements to the Town of Amherst Senior Center and the area adjacent to Room 101.

The building will remain open throughout the renovation, though some sections may be temporarily off-limits during certain construction activity.

The project, funded by $2.8 million from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), is designed to enhance the space where many vital departments and services are housed — including the Public Health Department, Senior Services, Veterans Services, Department of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI), Community Responders for Equity, Safety, & Service (CRESS), Musante Health Center, and the Civil War Tablets Exhibit.

Construction is happening in multiple phases, starting with the lower level then moving through the 2nd and 1st floors, with the final work extending into early 2027. Some phases will require offices to relocate within the building, but most services will continue to be available.

We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during this essential upgrade. Stay tuned for updates on project progress and any program adjustments.
