Just as a reminder, DPW customer service will be here at the COA on Wednesday, 9/16 from 9:00 am to 11:30am to assist with your trash sticker application. Bring a driver’s license or current utility bill to show proof of eligibility and a check.

Please call COA at 978-388-8138 to sign up

Two weeks ago, the city announced the new trash sticker program to help manage the rising costs of the Amesbury's trash and recycling collection contract. Although the fee will not cover the full cost of the agreement, it will help diversify budget revenues while respecting the demand for affordability heard at the polls last November.

Trash stickers will be required for each curbside trash collection cart, starting October 1, 2026. Residential properties with 6 or less units are eligible to purchase up to 6 stickers. Stickers fees are $100 each. Recycling carts do not require a sticker.

Properties with 7 or more units will be required to contract for private trash/recycling pick up.

To help with the process of purchasing your sticker, customer service representatives from Public Works will be available at the Council on Aging to assist you with your application on the following dates.

68 Elm Street, Amesbury MA
Thurs., 9/10 - 9am-11:30am
Weds., 9/16 - 9am-11:30am
Thurs., 9/24 - 9am-11:30am

Please bring proof of property eligibility by driver's license, state issued ID, current utility bill, tax bill, etc.

To speed up the process, only checks payable to the “City of Amesbury” will be accepted ($100. per sticker).

Please call the COA at 978-388-8138 to sign up.

In-person assistance is also available at DPW on 39 South Hunt Rd (Mon-Fri, 7am-3pm).

Friends of the Council on Aging is proud to share that $40,358 was contributed to the COA this year to support a wide range of programs and services our seniors rely on. Here’s how those funds made an impact:

• $12,000 for exercise classes
• $6,670 for foot care
• $7,000 for breakfasts, luncheons, birthday celebrations, and daily coffee
• $2,500 for pet assistance
• $12,000+ for other essentials, including daily newspaper and movie subscriptions, equipment, postage, and more

Where did the funding come from?
Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Friends of the COA raised $30,722, with the remaining support coming from their operating fund.

• $4,000 from memberships
• $5,300 from Penny Mill sales
• $1,200 from craft fairs
• $1,031 from raffles
• $7,600 from Live Well Amesbury sponsors
• $11,000+ from general and named contributions

These contributions include memorials, honorariums, and many heartfelt thank you donations for services like tax preparation, handyman work, sewing help, SHINE assistance, exercise classes, coffee service, van rides, and more.

The Council on Aging and the residents they serve, thank the Friends of the COA for all they do and for their continued support!
