When we reopened the Orange House for hospitality last year, we received numerous faith-based pieces of art for our walls and tables. Our community donated this beautiful art to us.

Some of the paintings are nearly 100 years old. This art helps our home feel connected to our Lord. If you’ve been inside our home, you know the feeling of the Holy Spirit emanating throughout.

We are grateful for our community supporting Ames Romero House with art that is special to each family that donated it to us 🙏

Imagine scraping paint in 90+ degree weather! 🌞

The work has begun on the exterior painting of our home. Weather permitting, we hope to have a freshly painted Orange House by ~September 20.

Same colors, but just bringing the original colors to life. Please pray for the painters for their health, safety & well-being during this extremely warm and humid weather 🙏

Last night, we recognized our great group of volunteers who make the Ames Romero House what it is today. A growing mission who support our marginalized community in Story County. Our volunteers dedicate their time to helping those who need a hand.

Volunteers include hospitality, food preparation, landscaping, and many other areas that touch our home. Giving back to community and faith makes ARH a special place.

We are grateful to The Rustic Rose Barn Venue in Roland for allowing us to share its beautiful venue for an evening of gratitude and fellowship.

We have started preparing the exterior of our home at 702 Clark to paint it with the same colors and make it look as stunning from the outside as it does inside.

Stay tuned for updates as we restore this historic home to its vibrant past colors.

Images of Ames Warming Place’s Trivia Night Fundraiser Saturday night at Spark By Hilton in Ames.

The event room was packed with 23 tables competing over trivia questions on all types of categories. We are grateful for our group from Leadership Ames for assisting us with the event.

Live auction items between rounds made the event even more exciting. Thank you to all the area businesses who participated in providing items for the auction.

We also want to thank Overflow Thrift Store who donated funding for a commercial washer & dryer prior to the event. We will now have access to wash bed sheets and blankets for our guests during the upcoming season.

Thank you to the Ames community for continuing to support Ames Warming Place, an overnight shelter open during extreme cold weather for any Story County resident.

We expect another busy season, so please visit our website to sign up for volunteer shifts, to donate items, or financially support the shelter.

We are excited to announce that the Homeless Outreach Support Team (HOST) is joining the Ames Romero House family.

Over the years, HOST has developed an innovative outreach model that brings together professionals from the Ames Police Department, ARCH, Mary Greeley Medical Center, and The Salvation Army to serve our unhoused neighbors wherever they are, including at encampments, the public library, the streets, and throughout the community.

By integrating HOST’s program into Ames Romero House, we are creating a seamless continuum of care. Our hospitality ministry provides a welcoming place where relationships begin, while HOST extends those relationships into the community with specialized outreach, crisis intervention, mental health support, substance use resources, and connections to housing and essential services.

Importantly, the HOST team members will continue serving through their respective employers. Their expertise and trusted relationships remain unchanged. What changes is our ability to work together more effectively under one shared mission.

Each Friday, HOST convenes more than twenty local organizations to coordinate care for individuals experiencing homelessness and other complex challenges. That collaborative approach will continue, ensuring every person is connected with the agencies best equipped to meet their unique needs.

This partnership also strengthens the Ames Warming Place, Story County's overnight emergency shelter during extreme winter weather. Ames Romero House and HOST were instrumental in helping establish this vital community resource, and together we will continue ensuring our neighbors have a safe place to turn during times of crisis.

As we begin this exciting new chapter, we invite you to continue walking alongside us. Together, we are building something greater than any one organization could accomplish alone; a compassionate community where every person is seen, valued, and given the opportunity to flourish.
