HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING
Heat Advisory issued September 6 at 3:21AM EDT until September 6 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA
* WHAT...Heat index values up to 105.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central,
northeast, northwest, southeast, and west central Georgia.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and
pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Widespread strong thunderstorms with damaging winds and locally heavy rain are expected across portions of the Ohio Valley into southern Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas. A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southern Sumter County through 430 PM EDT
Special Weather Statement issued August 27 at 3:46PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA
At 345 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was over Sumter, or 9 miles
south of Americus. This storm was nearly stationary.

HAZARD...Heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Heavy rain may cause temporary street flooding especially
in poor drainage areas.

Locations impacted include...
Americus, Leslie, De Soto, Desoto, Sumter, Lamar, Maddox, Methvins,
Croxton Crossroads, New Era, and Huntington.
Motorists should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of
control due to hydroplaning.

Dangerous heat will persist across the Southwest U.S. through Friday with daytime highs of 110-115°F. Heat across the southern Plains will briefly ease to near-normal by late week. A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southwestern Sumter County through 245 PM EDT
Special Weather Statement issued August 21 at 2:14PM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA
At 214 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was over Plains, or 8 miles west
of Americus, moving southeast at 5 mph.

HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind, pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
ground lightning.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light, unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Americus, Plains, Sumter, Huntington, Maddox, and Croxton Crossroads.
People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
