Announcing: The State of Education Town Hall Tour!

Sumter County Schools is excited to launch The State of Education Town Hall Tour this October! Superintendent Jerry J. Sanders, Sr. is taking the conversation into communities across Sumter County to listen and engage directly with our families and stakeholders.

These Town Halls will provide a welcoming and safe space for honest dialogue about the future of our schools. Superintendent Sanders will share the district’s focus on Tier I Instruction, Culture & Climate, and Customer Service—but most importantly, we want to hear from YOU!

🌱 From SCMS to SCHS: Exploring Agriculture! 🐄🐐

Mr. Brinson Brock’s SCMS Ag students got a firsthand look at what their future in agriculture could hold during a visit to the SCHS Agricultural Facility this week!

Gabriel Brogdon, SCHS Young Farmers teacher, led students on a tour of the Ag program and introduced them to opportunities they can continue exploring when they move on to Sumter County High School.

🐄 Students met the program’s show cattle and heard directly from high school students about the responsibility, hard work, and rewards that come with raising and showing livestock. They also got some hands-on experience—and the goats near the pond were definitely a favorite! 🐐 Mr. Brock was pleasantly surprised by just how many students were eager to get up close and interact with the animals.

🥫 The group also visited the community education room and cannery, where they learned about food preservation, got a look at the canning facility, and heard how this exciting resource will serve our entire community.

Experiences like this give our middle school students a chance to see where the skills and interests they’re developing right now can take them in high school and beyond. 💙💛

📚🐾 Round 2 in the SCMS Media Center! 💙💛

Our ELA classes returned to the Media Center for their second round of visits! Students continued learning how to navigate the library, explored the reading incentives available to them, and had time to settle into some comfortable seating—or hop on a Read & Ride bike! 🚲📖

We’re also promoting Accelerated Reader through the Media Center as we encourage students to read, test, and keep building those reading skills! 🌟

There’s always something happening in the Media Center to help our Panthers find a book, find a challenge, and find a reason to READ! 📚

💙💛 September First Friday Celebration! 💛💙

We kicked off September by showing a little extra appreciation to the amazing faculty and staff who make GREATNESS happen every day at SCMS! 🐾

For this month’s First Friday Celebration, our team stopped by for POPPIN' popcorn and custom “Dirty Sodas” 🍿🥤 and took a few minutes to reflect on their “WHY.” Each faculty and staff member completed a puzzle piece sharing what they bring to our students or what inspires them to do this important work. 🧩

Because at SCMS, every piece has a purpose, and every person makes a difference. ❤️

A huge THANK YOU to Powerhouse Automotive and SCMS School Life for sponsoring this month’s celebration and helping us show some love to the people who make our school such a special place!

💐 SCMS FFA Takes on Floral Design! 🌸

SCMS students Srihrid Banerjee and Kinsley Brewer recently represented our FFA chapter at the FFA State Floral Design Seminar at Fort Valley State University!

It was an intensive day of hands-on training with floral professionals as students learned design techniques, flower identification, and the aesthetic principles behind professional floral arrangements. 🌷🌿

The best part came at the end! More than 150 FFA students from across Georgia brought their completed designs together in a banquet facility staged like a formal wedding reception. Students were able to see how their individual creations came together to transform an entire event space—and they even enjoyed wedding cake to complete the experience! 🎂💐

What a great opportunity for Srihrid and Kinsley to build practical skills, explore another side of the agriculture industry, and see the fruits—or should we say flowers—of their labor! 🌼

We’re proud to see our SCMS Panthers taking advantage of opportunities to learn by doing! 💙💛🐾

Students in Mrs. Roberts’ class put science into action today with a hands-on S’mores Lab! Students observed and identified physical and chemical changes in real time while reinforcing concepts they’ve been learning in class.

This is Tier I instruction in action—students engaged, learning, and having fun while bringing science standards to life! 🧠🔬

A special shoutout to Mr. Azad for co-teaching at its finest! Mrs. Roberts and Mr. Azad worked together to ensure students were supported, engaged, and successful throughout the lab. 💙💛

💐 Growing Skills & Showing Appreciation! 💙💛

Mr. Brinson Brock’s SCMS Ag students are putting their floral design skills to work while showing some love to another important part of our Panther family!

Each week, students will provide student-created floral arrangements to brighten our serving lines as a small token of appreciation for our hard-working School Nutrition staff. 🌸🌿

It’s a great way for our students to practice real-world skills while learning that their talents can also be used to encourage and appreciate others.

Thank you to our School Nutrition team for all you do for SCMS every day! 💙💛🐾
