Today, Americus Fire and Emergency Services, in conjunction with Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, delivered sixty Stop the Bleed kits to the Sumter County Schools Transportation Department and seven additional kits to Americus‑Sumter County High School. We are proud to partner with our local school system to place these lifesaving resources where they are needed most.
The Stop the Bleed program is designed to give everyday people the ability to take immediate action during a severe bleeding emergency. Uncontrolled bleeding can become life‑threatening within minutes, long before first responders arrive. These kits contain essential tools such as tourniquets, wound‑packing materials, and pressure dressings, simple, effective items that can help stabilize a person until medical help is on scene.
By equipping school buses and high‑school staff with these kits, we are strengthening the safety and preparedness of our entire community. This effort ensures that drivers, teachers, and school personnel have access to the right tools during an emergency, giving them the ability to act quickly and confidently when every second matters.
We are grateful for the continued partnership with Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and Sumter County Schools. Working together, we are building a safer, more prepared community for our students, staff, and families.
