Americus Fire had the opportunity to participate in an inter-agency training alongside AmeriPro EMS Service, our local ambulance service. During the training, personnel from both agencies discussed equipment, daily operations, and response procedures while also taking part in a station tour to better understand how each agency functions and serves our community.
Trainings like these help strengthen communication, teamwork, and camaraderie between first responders who work side-by-side during emergencies every day. Building these relationships is an important part of providing the best possible service to the citizens we serve.

Today, Americus Fire and Emergency Services delivered twenty Stop the Bleed kits to the Americus Police Department. We are proud to support our local officers by providing these important lifesaving resources that help strengthen their ability to respond quickly during emergencies.

The Stop the Bleed program is designed to give everyday people, and especially first responders, the tools and confidence to control severe bleeding before medical help arrives. Because life‑threatening bleeding can occur in just minutes, having immediate access to tourniquets, wound‑packing materials, and pressure dressings can make a critical difference in saving a life.

By equipping our police officers with these kits, we are enhancing their readiness and ensuring they have the supplies needed to act swiftly in high‑risk situations. This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to improving community safety and supporting the men and women who protect Americus every day.

We appreciate the partnership and teamwork with the Americus Police Department as we continue working together to strengthen emergency preparedness across our community.

Today, Americus Fire and Emergency Services, in conjunction with Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, delivered sixty Stop the Bleed kits to the Sumter County Schools Transportation Department and seven additional kits to Americus‑Sumter County High School. We are proud to partner with our local school system to place these lifesaving resources where they are needed most.

The Stop the Bleed program is designed to give everyday people the ability to take immediate action during a severe bleeding emergency. Uncontrolled bleeding can become life‑threatening within minutes, long before first responders arrive. These kits contain essential tools such as tourniquets, wound‑packing materials, and pressure dressings, simple, effective items that can help stabilize a person until medical help is on scene.

By equipping school buses and high‑school staff with these kits, we are strengthening the safety and preparedness of our entire community. This effort ensures that drivers, teachers, and school personnel have access to the right tools during an emergency, giving them the ability to act quickly and confidently when every second matters.

We are grateful for the continued partnership with Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and Sumter County Schools. Working together, we are building a safer, more prepared community for our students, staff, and families.

We will begin our annual hydrant testing on May 26th, 2026. During this time, you may see our engines in different neighborhoods flowing water from fire hydrants. This is something we do every year to help maintain the city’s water system and ensure everything stays in proper working order. It also plays an important role in helping us maintain our Class 1 ISO rating, which saves our community money and reflects the high level of protection we provide.

Every hydrant within the city limits is tested so we can make sure our residents have the best fire protection possible. While testing is underway, you may notice cloudy or discolored water in some areas. This happens when sediment in the pipes gets stirred up. If you experience this, simply run your sink or bathtub for a short time and the water should clear up on its own.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete this important work for our community.

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Chief Jon Allan Suggs (Ret.) Chief Suggs served at Americus Fire for 28 years. His service did not began in the Fire service, he proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam. A servants heart that lead a life of service. Chief pushed us, trained us, and made all of us better. Unmatched in his dedication and knowledge of this craft. Beyond the walls of the Firehouses here in Americus he was known throughout the state. A life serving and training has left a lasting impact upon an immeasurable number of members in the Fire Service. Legacy beyond measure. We grieve but Honor you Chief, we stand ready to answer the next call knowing your foundational leadership will continue to guide us. Servant leadership transcends. We stand with the family and grieve with the family during this difficult time.
