"Graphic Pics!" The shelter has been swamped with medical cases. A heartless, cruel person tortured a puppy and then abandoned it. We immediately rushed him to our trusted vet for care. On Friday he tested positive for parvo and we just found out that despite treatment he passed away overnight. We have a kitten that is missing half of its back leg and needs an amputation. We have a dog with breathing issues in vet treatment. In addition, most of the dogs at the shelter are heartworm positive and the ones pictured have been treated and we have another 12 staying with us that are yet to be done. On Friday some "lovely" person abandoned a box in front of the building with five newborn kittens. We suspect that the mama cat was also in the box and jumped out so one of our staff is now feeding babies every two hours while mama is out in the wild creating more!! The price of kitten formula is daunting and we are going through lots. NONE OF THIS IS OK!!! Are you willing to help? Any monetary donations to pay our massive vet bills would be greatly appreciated. We also need adopters. The south can no longer depend on the north to solve our pet overpopulation problem - they are in the same boat. Every rescue/shelter we contact is full and cannot help. We have wonderful, sweet, beautiful dogs that would make perfect companions and they need to be saved locally. This community must also get on the spay/neuter wagon and make it a priority. If your pets are altered - thank you. If your neighbors' pets are not - talk with them. Tell them about our low cost program. If they can't afford it - help them out. We MUST fix our own problems in our own community. The shelters priority must be the strays, lost, abused, and abandoned pets in this community. You need to keep your pet because surrendering to the shelter is based on space and we are always full because animal control visits us daily. If you need help keeping your pet, give us a call. We will do everything we can to give you advice and assistance. Georgia pets need to stay in Georgia - there just aren't any other options.
