After 22 years of dedicated service in the fire service, Captain Lawrence has officially retired.

Throughout his career, T-Law served with Lone Peak Fire District, South Salt Lake Fire Department, Unified Fire Authority, and American Fork Fire & Rescue as a Firefighter/Paramedic and Captain. He was also deeply involved with Utah Task Force 1 and FEMA as a canine handler, and made a lasting impact through his work as a fleet mechanic and instructor.

T-Law’s knowledge, experience, and passion for the fire service have influenced countless firefighters throughout his career.

Captain Lawrence, thank you for your service, leadership, friendship, and dedication. We are grateful for everything you have given to American Fork Fire & Rescue and American Fork City.

American Fork City has decided to continue to prohibit the discharge of personal fireworks within city limits for the Pioneer Day holiday, including the days leading up to, and after Pioneer Day. This is consistent with the fireworks restrictions on July 4th.

Governor Spencer Cox has given local communities the authority to determine whether personal fireworks can be used based on local conditions. Due to ongoing drought, extremely dry vegetation, and firefighting resources that remain stretched thin across the state and in our city, American Fork City has determined that prohibiting personal fireworks is the safest course of action.

You can still enjoy a great fireworks show this week for Pioneer Day or Steel Days! The displays below are put on by licensed professionals, giving everyone a safe and free way to celebrate.

Mayor Brad Frost has issued the following statement regarding personal fireworks within American Fork City:

After careful consideration, American Fork City will uphold Governor Spencer Cox’s Executive Order prohibiting the discharge of personal fireworks within the city limits.

This decision reflects the recommendation of the American Fork City Fire Chief and Fire Marshal in light of ongoing drought conditions, extremely dry vegetation, and firefighting resources that remain stretched thin across the state. While we understand the importance of celebrating our nation’s independence, the current environment presents a heightened risk that cannot be ignored.

Even one spark can have devastating consequences for homes, businesses, open spaces, and the people who call American Fork home. We ask every resident and visitor to respect this decision and comply with the temporary restriction. By choosing caution and embracing safer ways to celebrate, we can protect the people and places that make American Fork such a great community.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, patience, and support during this critical time. As we move forward, we also pause to remember and honor the lives lost in recent fires across the Utah-Colorado border, keeping their families in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for helping protect our community and ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe and meaningful Independence Day.

This personal fireworks ban is currently in effect from July 2-5, but fire conditions will be reevaluated and further communication released for the Pioneer Day Holiday. Previously published American Fork City maps showing permissible fireworks discharge areas are temporarily suspended under the statewide limitations. While these restrictions prohibit most consumer fireworks use, professionally conducted fireworks displays by State of Utah-certified operators with the necessary permits are still allowed. Governor Cox has issued an executive order implementing temporary statewide fireworks restrictions due to Utah's historic wildfire conditions. American Fork City is currently reviewing the Governor's order with City leadership, our Fire & Rescue Department, and other public safety officials to determine how we will implement them as a city. We recognize that many residents have questions as the Fourth of July approaches quickly, and we appreciate your patience while we carefully next steps and consider the safest path forward for our city. Incident Update - 6/21/26

Crews responded to a two-vehicle accident where one vehicle left the roadway and impacted a building near the intersection.

All occupants were evaluated by EMS on scene, with no injuries requiring transport identified. Due to damage to the structure, the Building Department responded and determined stabilization was needed before the vehicle could be removed.

A Heavy Rescue Crew from Provo Fire Department assisted with shoring operations. Once the building was stabilized, the vehicle was safely removed and crews remained on scene until all hazards were mitigated.
