National Police Week began yesterday and ends on Saturday, May 16th. As with National Telecommunications Week, National Police Week honors the hard work and sacrifices of our law enforcement officers.

This week also honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. We extend our deepest gratitude to those gone but never forgotten.

We also extend our appreciation and gratitude to all of our deputies and recognize their sacrifices and contributions in the service to Power County. Please see the link from the National FOP which provides the history of this week and the many other ways that those lost are memorialized and those serving are appreciated.

The Power County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance. A PCSO deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop with this motorcyclist for reported traffic violations. When the deputy located the motorcyclist on I-86, a traffic stop was initiated.

The motorcyclist fled, reaching speeds upwards of 140 mph. The deputy was unable to maintain a visual of the motorcycle at those speeds and discontinued for public safety reasons. Information obtained revealed the motorcyclist had fueled up at Maverik prior to the traffic complaint.

If anyone has any information regarding the motorcycle or operator of the motorcycle please contact the sheriff’s office at 208-226-2311 reference case number 26-2P1169. Thank you.

The Power County Sheriff’s Office is proud to share that Deputy Travis Morrell has graduated from the Marine Law Enforcement Academy. The MLE academy is held each spring and covers a myriad of boating laws and boating safety practices such as safety inspections, stranded boat towing, boat operations etc. to name just a few.

Deputy Morrell has been in law enforcement for 16 years and has been with the sheriff’s office since August of last year. Prior to working for PCSO, he worked for the Rupert Police Department and Heyburn Police Department. We are proud of Deputy Morrell and look forward to his assistance with our marine patrol program this year.

The Power County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the community’s assistance with an investigation. Last night, we received a report of a male who had offered a group of children candy and asked them to come to his vehicle. The children did not accept the offer. The incident occurred at the Power County Fairgrounds during the rodeo.

The male was described as a middle aged white male, with stringy hair and a beard. He was further described as having a round belly and has a tattoo on his upper left arm. His clothing description was described as a blue and white tie die cowboy hat, “Pit Viper” style sunglasses that were orange and red in color, white tank top, jeans and brown cowboy boots.

His vehicle was described as a red in color suv. Prior to the report, he is believed to have left the area and no license plate number was able to be obtained.

If anyone has any information about this incident or about the male subject please call the Power County Sheriff’s Office to speak with Deputy Hoag or the on duty Deputy reference case number 26-2P1095.

We appreciate any and all assistance from our community. Thank you.
